Yeah and in the novel Ruth Hall, the main character becomes fabulously well off from writing a successful magazine column. To be fair, Conde Nast writers even today make pretty good money, I think Conde Nast pays $1 a word?

I suspect in this case it’s as much a result of villain roles being more challenging and British actors tending to be more skilled at intricate character work as it is any larger attitude toward British people
