So many friendships didn't survive the diagnosis. Ironically, getting treatment helped me to feel better and do more! Some ghosted, others faded and stopped inviting me to things, and others got TOO in my face, treating me like an ongoing tragedy to pity. Tip: just ask pwd how to show up 4 them

Forced expulsion.

And I'm not saying that's ok. In a better world I wouldn't have to do that. But we don't live in that world ... yet.

What I wish people understood is that the stuff they take off work for? I go to work with that every. single. day. Written as a person who did my weekly report and emails w/ an IV in my arm with headphones on to drown out all the hospital noise. Because that's a thing I do that's normal for me. 🙄

TIL! Didn't know about that distinction of wattle vs waddle 😆

Normally I feel good about taxes, but this year was hard. I like to imagine where my personal tax dollars go. Usually I think of things like school lunches and roads. This year I'm imagining my dollars are going to the federal workers who are doing their absolute best for us.

Miranda (remain silent) was a kidnapping & rape case. But if we don't protect Miranda, then we can't protect you or me. Othering people is dangerous. We deprive people of their civil liberties bc we think they are different & we will never be at risk ourselves. A foolish & dangerous thing to do.

Democratic values & rule of law matter least for people that we like most. If we like them, we will always protect them. Our values are most important for the worst among Us. Look at Gideon and Gideon v. Wainwright. He was an ass. But through him we learned we needed the right to counsel.

Hey, can you consider alt text on your images? I found a fast and easy way to do it is to open up the alt text option and then use speech to text to just read the words in the image. Literally only takes a few seconds.

Maybe it's the privilege itself that makes them unsatisfactory. Anyone taking credit, basking in the glory of things they didn't earn is probably someone who will be found wanting.

As someone with disability, preventative care is extra important to me. My compromised immune system makes me more vulnerable to absolutely EVERYTHING, and especially many cancers. It's also important to note that this case is another direct attack on women. Neutral explainer of the case here

What happens next on this feels absolutely critical

When someone says "I know someone with ___ and they are fine. You can't even tell!" It tells me that the person with a disability doesn't trust the speaker with the truth about how they are doing. And it's helpful knowledge bc now I know I can't trust them either.

Dammit with the onions.

"they don't know why" is a sanewashing headline. The emails didn't articulate a specific reason, but that doesn't mean WaPo should pretend it's a mystery. They don't specify why bc the coup has enough momentum that they can afford to be lazy in their attacks on education. Stop helping them.

Right? I immediately looked him up and wow. With friends like him, who needs enemies?

I just received a recall notice on celery - that's still in my fridge - for listeria. I'm immune compromised and I immediately thought, my god, what happens next time? This already felt like a close call. Decimating the FDA will cost lives. Which could easily be me.

He both treats the truth as flexible and demands that others do the same.
