Preventing wars requires preparing for them. Wars are conflicts between economies. The side that marshals the most resources wins. To deter Putin, Britain needs to build its fighting economy. See my article setting out how for @ConGeostrategy here: buff.ly/ZK2lVVI

A divided nation is a weaker one. We meet this moment by creating a stronger nation, where everyone can earn a decent life.

🌍 ‘Preventing a wider conflict in Europe means preparing to win one decisively. Winning a conflict is a matter of economics and strategy,’ writes @jeevunsandher.bsky.social, MP for Loughborough, in a new #Memorandum #BritainsWorld

Warfare is changing rapidly. Today, a $1000 drone can destroy a $10m tank. To compete on the battlefield, we need to innovate rapidly. A Multilateral Defence Bank would ensure defence SMEs have the capital they need to do so.

💬 I’m holding a coffee morning in Loughborough on Saturday the 24th of May. Come along for a conversation about the things that matter to you 👇 Full details below. Looking forward to seeing you there.

The economy (GDP) is growing: good news GDP per person is growing: better news www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

A great pint at The Blue Ball in Shepshed for stop no.18 of the tour 🍻

Grateful to @mariecurieuk.bsky.social for meeting me this week. I'm pleased to support Amendment 21 to the #EndOfLifeBill which would include reporting on palliative & end of life care. Palliative care & patient choice go hand in hand to ensure a holistic approach for people who are dying.

On Friday @jeevunsandher.bsky.social, MP for Loughborough, joined #LboroUCU and staff from across the university for an open meeting on the future of Higher Education policy in the UK. We send thanks to LU staff who attended & asked insightful questions & to Jeevun for his responses. #LboroFmaily

Across the political divide, people are united on the need for a change in the law to give terminally ill people choice and dignity in their dying days.

🏥 Today on #InternationalNursesDay, I want to recognise the incredible work nurses do every single day. That’s why we delivered a pay rise — with 1,500 nursing vacancies in the East Midlands, action was needed. If we want nurses, we need to pay for them.

Reform and Green voters are far more likely to say that British politics makes them angry Some of these voters supported us in the July '24 election These are the voters who are financially strugggling and now want radical change (h/t @ailsahenderson.bsky.social)

Join me for a coffee morning — a chance to talk about the issues that matter to you 👇 It'll be in Unity House in Loughborough on Saturday the 24th of May. All the info is below. Looking forward to catching up with you.

Honoured to attend three VE Day services yesterday, remembering the courage of the greatest generation who won through sacrifice.

Today marks 80 years since Victory in Europe Day. We remember their sacrifice and service. Two key takeaways for me: 1) Protecting the peace means stopping foreign dictators like Putin. 2) We have to support our veterans as we are doing with the VALOUR program

We are losing voters to Reform *and* the Greens because they can't afford a decent life. But life is unaffordable for these voters in different ways. 👇 is what's happening and how we get them back. Labour List: buff.ly/SZCzC8A Substack: buff.ly/NSLBULN 🧵 below (1/6)

We need strong borders. But we should remember the valuable contribution migrants make to our country. There is a difference between us and Reform. They want to blame migrants for every problem we face.

Reform UK stooge doing a bang-up job of defending their links to Putin.🤣 "We think what Putin has done is disgraceful. BUT... What are you going to do? Put our armed forcees in harm's way to defend somebody that we don't have that much to do with?" ~AA @jeevunsandher.bsky.social

I am proud that Keir Starmer and Johnny Reynolds have agreed an historic Free Trade Agreement with India. The UK and India are two great democracies. With a shared history and values. This trade deal will help strengthen our ties, making both nations better off.

Will be on BBC Politics Live at 12:15

Nigel Farage came to Loughborough. We have very different values. I believe in a stronger, united nation. Farage believes in a weak, divided one. That's the choice: strength vs. weakness.

I would like to thank my colleague Gurinder Singh Josan for raising the horrific attack in Pahalgam in the House of Commons today. We condemn this horrific terrorism and our condolences go to the families of the victims.

Pint no.17, roof terrace vibes at The Kelso in Loughborough 🍻

Really great day out on the doorstep yesterday. Three days to go until we can elect some brilliant Labour County Councillors #labourdoorstep

Populist revolts, military invasions, and a burning planet are the existential threats that we face. These times require a new expression of our values: Strong Labour.

Strength built on our prosperity, connection, and common purpose

The war in Ukraine is exposing tensions between expendable and exquisite defence platforms. Yesterday, I asked the Secretary of State how Britain will manage this trade-off to keep ourselves, Europe, and Ukraine safe.

I have been sanctioned by Putin for calling for us to do all we can to defeat him. A century ago, politicians in my position made the mistake of letting a dictator redraw European borders by force. If trying to stop that happening again means I am sanctioned, then so be it.

From different backgrounds, we have built our nation’s shared culture. A nation where we have a curry and then cheer on the English football team down the pub. Proud to be English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Happy St. George’s Day Everyone!

It was a pleasure to host our local MP Dr. @jeevunsandher.bsky.social on Saturday as we defeated Racing Club Warwick 2-0. Dr. Sandher met with Club Chairman Stuart Turner & had a chance to see the Pitching In Northern Premier League Midlands Division trophy. #Champions🏆 #WeAreQuorn #TheReds🟥

Pope Francis showed that the best expression of our humanity is found in serving others. That we are all each other's neighbour. That empathy, service, and compassion define a life well lived. May he rest in peace.

Pint no. 16 at the Hunting Lodge in Barrow was delicious

Happy Easter everybody! At this time of year, I like to remember the eternal values that Jesus Christ espoused. Of empathy (Matthew 7:12), forgiveness (Matthew 5:7), and our duty to future generations (Psalm 89). I hope you all have a great day with friends and family.

A great day out on the doorstep for the brilliant Beverley Gray. Already a fantastic borough councillor, she will be a fantastic County Councillor for Loughborough South. And thank you very much to the brilliant James Murray for coming to join us

Today's falling inflation is good news *But* we've had higher inflation than other nations because we are dependent on natural gas. Natural Gas sets our electricity price 98% of the time vs. 58% in Europe If we want inflation down for good we need clean energy

Pint no.15 at The Windmill in Wymeswold. Great pint in a great pub. 🍻
