I love that this great bit of music was re-cycled on the Korean film Burning.

He’s a filmmaker I think you would love. Strong Ozu influence. His filmography is strong all the way thru.

Another masterpiece from Hirokazu Kor-eeda. You know his work, @stairwaytokevin13.bsky.social ?

I love Le Trou - I think it is an unimprovable movie.

Got this one sitting in the PVR. Due for a rewatch. Becker gets short-shifted as kinda a junior Melville, but that’s a bit unfair. The guy has an interesting resume.

It is set in surfer land in California, yes. Curtis plays basically a con man, a la Falco, so goes after a beach babe (Sharon Tate).

Did you ever see Don’t Make Waves, from 1967? Directed by Alexander Mackendrick, and starring Curtis. It could be read as what Sidney Faldo ended up doing after SSoS.

I sat in on a Zoom that Sayles was a part of and he told a neat anecdote about hiring Haskell Wexler for Matewan. He got a call at the small hotel they were staying in in West Virginia. The total clerk who took the call told Sayles “Some Hacksaw guy called for you”.

You can read it in a couple of hours. And yes, a real treat if you are interested in how movies get made.
