My editor finally getting me to focus on my book deadline....

When I walk around Portland, I sometime feel like I'm in a comic book like that one Tintin where giant mushrooms just sproinged up. "Oh, that? Just a normal HUGE plant in the fringe between the street and the sidewalk."

I could rant ad nauseam over how much the Southern Reach has consumed my every thought since journeying into Area X less than a week ago. @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social ‘s Art masterfully blends prose & mystery that weave the reader into the environment as it weaves itself into everything else. 10/10

Portlanders... there is a hell globe in the sky, glowering and harshing my vibe. I was promised endless gloom and rain. Wherefore art thou gentle showers?! Please explain.

This. It's really inconsiderate, rude, etc.

It is a good day to fight fascism and make cherry jam.

Exploitation of other writers for his YA books, use of AI, etc. Just...no.

Around Portland today, with expedition to Japanese Gardens with @sallyfisherprice.bsky.social

Alert: The cougar spotted in a Victoria park has been downgraded to "raccoon" as of this morning. 😆

Happy to say that my foreword will appear with the Oct. 2025 W.W. Norton trade paperback of Giorgio de Maria's classic novel of the surreal and weird (translated skillfully by Ramon Glazov). Up there with Alfred Kubin's The Other Side and Michel Bernanos' The Other Side of the Mountain.

Match pairings to follow next week, but in the meantime here are the books that will be entering our first-ever summer bracket: “Absolution” by Jeff VanderMeer “The City and Its Uncertain Walls” by Haruki Murakami “Creation Lake” by Rachel Kushner “Good Material” by Dolly Alderton (1/3)

some modifications were made to the ebook, but it makes the most sense as a physical printed artifact
