ModBee...this is a story from Maine. Please try to be a little more clear in your headlines.

Californian here who much prefers "Californian" over "American" these days, and I'm with the EU and Canada in this, too. Let MAGA handle it themselves if they want to sacrifice for their Dear Leader.

If he's telling the truth and they've been separated and all but divorced for about a year...I don't see how him splitting w/ his wife is worthy of him being DFA'd. I think they should be left to handle a personal matter privately, unless there's clear evidence of serious abuse, no?

3.5 years to go, hang in there buddy.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying embrace it anyway. My feeling is there's enough investment and interest that it won't be going away any time soon. So in the meantime the best course of action for creative folks is to focus on regulation, fair-use, and accountability. And speaking up, for sure!

Question for you (and honestly, I appreciate the discussion) I really do hate where this whole industry is going, and I get that you'd rather these AI tools are just blocked. But imagining that we may be in a world where it's not going way, what do you think of this? www.fairlytrained.org

Totally get it! I've made the same analogy myself. :) And to expand on that idea...I don't think guns are going to go away unfortunately. But I believe in strict gun control, training for firearms owners, and restrictions on the types of weapons sold. I think the same should apply to AI.

I actually don't at all. I don't have any interest in it beyond academically as just another computer science problem. IMO they've taken a potentially useful tool to help people, and twisted it into the newest money fountain. They could choose to get consent, and those that don't are failing you.

Sorry you feel that way, but I've worked hard to support ethical computer use and have supported orgs like @eff.org for 30 years of my IT career. You have more allies than you realize. I'm doing as much as I can within the scope of my background infrastructure work to avoid using abusive AI tools.

Absolutely, 100% am on your side. I don't work directly on AI. My work is lower level, foundational infrastructure stuff. A person could run a web site, a collaborative artist hub, a corporate data siphon, or, crappy AI models. It's all just computing at my level. Artists NEED more regulation asap.

Except that I'm not. I'd much, much rather see the creators own all of this, I don't give a crap about any of the AI companies succeeding in any way. But you have to understand that it is only going to keep growing...these people are obsessed with it all. It's cryptocurrency all over again.

Oh I know, I'm rolling my eyes at myself as I say it. I'm saying it's going to be here, it's a reality at this point - and I want all of the artists and creators out there to hold these companies accountable as they try to profit from all of your works.

With that in mind, I think focusing efforts on making it work better for us all is going to be more useful than trying to stop it entirely. I just truly don't see a path anymore where any of this will be restricted or controlled. We need to switch to awareness and teaching how it works and why.

I agree with your stance more and more, but having recently gone to a tech conference...it's not going away and it's not going to get better. These people are obsessed with the financial gain prospects, and they truly don't even consider any harm they might be bringing into the world.

As much as his piece of shit administration is to blame for what may come, I equally blame anyone in the military who's willing to participate in it. There can be no wars without soldiers, and we really need soldiers who are loyal to the US Constitution and peace and general goodness right now.

That was a rough one, so many missed opportunities. But glad that Devers was able to make some contributions at least.

I hope Harrison does great over in Boston, but I've never liked his pitching style and I was never comfortable with him on the mound. Always feels like he throws the ball and "hopes" it over the plate rather than pure pitching like Birdsong. If turns into a Boston superstar long term, that's great.

You're arguing with the wrong person my friend. I'm sitting on no fences, they can both fuck off and quit behaving like monsters. What you need to understand is that violent civil unrest isn't going to do a thing to change the minds of people doing committing those acts. It emboldens them.

Take a look at Israel and Iran today. Violence begets violence, it's an endless cycle. Someone has to say stop, we're not doing it like this. That's what politics and the legal system are for - change without bloodshed. I refuse to behave like they do. Peaceful protests reinforce that idea.

My wife and I are thinking of going today to try to get a little positivity in amidst the madness and chaos. Worth the theater viewing then eh? We're big Flanagan fans - although I do want him to get moving on the Dark Tower series already. :)

We are the same age. I am tired a lot now. Are you not tired a lot? :) Thanks for the last decade, Liam, seriously. Love all the ArtDad efforts, and will always remember and appreciate your heartfelt conversations with Sam during COVID that you guys shared with us. It helped.

Totally agree, but I would add that the "reasoning" layer is what most of the serious companies are focusing on now. LLMs give them a database. Cyclical reasoning models "thinking about what you're saying" will at least make these systems TRY to "understand." But yeah...I kind of hate all of it.

I've noticed a number of Giants wearing "Jesus Won" shirts after some of the games also, and the number of biblical ads on the broadcast and banner ads is getting obnoxious. It's a mental plague. Like in the bible!

Ugh really? Dammit. I always liked Kershaw as a person even when he was being Dodger-y. That sucks.
