I do not like AI in Slack I do not like AI on Mac I do not like AI in Zoom I don’t want AI in my room I do not want ChatGPT — please stop, AI, and leave me be! I don’t want AI here, or there; I don’t want AI anywhere! (… okay, okay — had to Seuss it, sorry 😇)

The revisions I need to make to a tenth draft were a strong contender.

met a neuroscientist who trained an LLM on thousands of parables and was stunned by its capacity to interpret. no human could have done it, they said. a lot of ai amazement is people brushing against the humanities, being unable to imagine the scope of our work, the time it takes, the skills we have

“i asked chat gpt” “i asked grok” Jeeves would kill you where you stand

This has been going on since at least 1812.

A rout indeed.

WE THE NORTH salute WE THE PEOPLE who came out in their millions against the fascist takeover in the United States. This is going to get a lot harder and a lot more frightening but the tyrant will fall.

As a Canadian… Gosh, I hope America shows up tomorrow

As an exercise today, I asked students to work in groups to conceptualize 'teacher meanness' as an independent variable that might help explain students' grades. Unfortunately, I then overheard a student refer to 'confounding vegetables' and couldn't stop myself from laughing.

This is one of the best - and most terrifying - images from my bird feeder. 😬

Our little girl Moo Deng is growing up! 🩵

the year is 2029. i start my work day by logging into the authentication app and plugging a six digit code from my phone into the computer. after repeating this process 300 more times for every application and website i use, i am finally ready to get to work. it is now 5pm and time to go home

This has also been my experience. This is all a credit to my mutuals, really, since my posts here typically range from 'niche and dry' to 'deeply unstrategic.'

But sure, we can all just 'buy fewer lattes' our way out of this. betterdwelling.com/canadian-rea...

"The report aims to push back on 'critically flawed' political and media narratives that blame women for rejecting marriage and parenthood due to a perceived lack of wanting a child." Embarrassing that this was necessary, frankly. globalnews.ca/news/1123400...

Gonna start arguing that people who object to anything I do are opposing the rationale for my actions, not the actions themselves. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Serious question: How can the Canadian Press continue allowing Postmedia to use its wire stories after making unauthorized changes to stories that run under its journalists bylines like this?

Happy Pride #Canada from Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberal government 🌈

Stoke fear. Exploit desperation. Suspend the rule of law. Fan brutality. Every time the stronger brutalize the weak, it’s fundamentally the same playbook. Our duty is to stand up to brutality. Our moral obligation is to protect the vulnerable and hold the powerful accountable.

Excuse the swearing but ffs, just use your own brains! What kind of model is it providing for children and parents if we can't even compose a quick email by ourselves? 🤦‍♀️

Sometimes the data speaks very clearly...

Google and Meta search both report that Cape Breton Island has its own time zone 12 minutes ahead of mainland Nova Scotia time because they are both drawing that information from a Beaverton article I wrote in 2024

"...send some signals that that’s happening that you care deeply about this relationship, and you see it as a long term relationship, and America as a reliable somebody that you want as a reliable partner moving forward." The absolute gall. www.politico.com/news/magazin...

guy next to me in the café was quite dramatically sitting with his head in his hands so I glanced at his screen to see what he was working on, and it was a doc with "IDEAS:" written at the top and absolutely nothing else my brother I hear you, I feel you, we are as one

“We welcome Canadians to come in and invest, to spend their hard-earned Canadian dollars at U.S. businesses.” Yes, we know you want our money - you're not getting it. www.cp24.com/news/canada/...

I mean, I feel like most people know that's nonsense, even without data. And those that don't won't be convinced by data.

Wow when I saw this post, it was so wild, I had to look up the raw trade data for myself. Sure enough, U.S. wine exports to Canada have fallen off a cliff:

🎶 I'm too sexy for my basin, too sexy for my basin - your knee I'll be chasin'

I got these scars after being told to smile one too many times.

Moo Deng, Moo Deng, Moo Deng, MOO DENG! I'm begging of you please don't bite my knee

So, this paper is passion-project of mine, asking questions about #motivation, proactive social actors, & emotional/affective dispositions. It is a long time coming & is a key piece in the argument for an affective #sociology. Check it out, open access (thx UBC) journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

People keep quoting this and saying "stop using AI!" But this is just a regular Google search. The issue is that Google now shows AI results first. Some people know to scroll past them or click the "Web" tab, but many do not.

I logged into my online banking today and saw a message saying “our thoughts are with Canadians impacted by wildfire smoke”. Strangely their money was still fanning the flames.
