I don't see a future in which those kids will look back on this and think that they've made a good decision deadline.com/2025/05/hbos...

Hands down my favorite piece of poetry

"More than a decade into Mr. Chávez’s rule, most Venezuelans still believed they lived in a democracy."

"America has, with stunning speed, descended into a world in which opponents of the government fear criminal investigations, lawsuits, tax audits and other punitive measures" Here's a gift link to this op-ed, because I think y'all should read every single word of it www.nytimes.com/2025/05/08/o...

Look at the gender breakdown of who speaks in popular films!

Dude Where's my Carcass?

„When citizens must think twice about criticizing or opposing the government because they could credibly face government retribution, they no longer live in a full democracy. By that measure, America has crossed the line into competitive authoritarianism.“

Plenty of new #Foellowers — time for a quick introduction! My name is Jens, I used to do fMRI brain research in Germany & Florida for many years, then pivoted to science communication. Now I’m writing for a science TV show and co-hosting a podcast if I’m not busy writing books. I like you all a lot.

I’ve had 30 new #Foellowers almost simultaneously, and they seem to be similar accounts (as in, interested in and concerned about current US politics). How have y’all found me? Did someone mention my account today somewhere / on a different platform?

this is it! the entire digital ecosystem is predicated upon massive data harvesting. that's the entire business model, and everything about this data to AI pipeline is actively and intentionally obscured

Another big FU from Harvard… free online courses on the US government, the US constitution, civic engagement, and more. pll.harvard.edu/subject/gove...

What should be the topic of my 5,000th Bluesky post? This is no. 4998

“Another large law firm was forced to explain itself to a judge this week for submitting a court filing with made-up citations generated by an artificial intelligence chatbot.” Lawyers, educators and journalists are in a contest to determine who is most eager to turn in shitty work out of laziness

I’m still miffed that this movie showed Furiosa get amputated as opposed to her being limb different from birth. The latter would have been something original for a movie and would have defied expectations — whereas as it is now, I actually don’t remember her amputation in the context of the movie.

I honestly can't tell if Google is mocking me with this. Anyway, be sure to visit my website www.jensfoell.de so maybe we can push these numbers up to half a dozen! Woo hoo!

Again. If they’re using DEI as an insult in public they’re saying the N-word in private.

Might be a good movie to revisit these days. Important to keep in mind that a revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having.

The podcast I’m doing with my great colleague @christianscharun.de is going LIVE this week, with an episode that comes to you straight from an open-air stage in beautiful Karlsruhe. Please enjoy!

“Do you know that classic comedy Three Amigos?” “Oh yeah, I love the whole trilogy” “… the trilogy?” “Yeah, you know: Three Amigos, A Bug’s Life, and Tropic Thunder” “…” “…” “omfg”
