Aansprakelijkheidsverzekering is a real Dutch word. It means liability insurance.

I wrote about The Isle of Skye, Virginia Giuffre, and tulips. It's a meditation on isolation and returning to the light. xo open.substack.com/pub/stroopwa...

Some Isle of Skye Fairy Glen magic for us. 🧚‍♀️

Her courage inspired other women to come forward. Rest, Virginia. “In the end, the toll of abuse is so heavy that it became unbearable for Virginia to handle its weight.”

I was gonna raw dog this short flight to Skye with no Xanax but then I saw the tiny plane and said fuck that and took a whole one. I hate flying. Meow. Meow meow meow. 😿

One of the things we learned when we moved to the Netherlands is that it’s illegal for the Dutch government to keep lists about residents because the Dutch were such excellent data collectors the Nazis marched right in and used that info to round everyone up.

Can’t fully express what a nightmare scenario it is that eugenicists are creating a centralized database of people’s health info.

I think it’s pretty clear that when the two mega databases this administration is working on are immigrants and autistic people that nothing good is afoot

I wrote a new Stroopwaffled about Dutch house hunting and our little canal boat, Shrimpy. open.substack.com/pub/stroopwa...

I'm heading to the Isle of Skye on Thursday if anyone needs me to pay a visit to a certain author and do the needful.

What continues to anger me is the understanding that Trump holds all the power, he can do or not do anything he wants with zero consequences and the people who enabled him to take this power, by voting for him or not voting against him, or not prosecuting him when they had the chance are responsible

Time to elect a new Top Christ Following Man.

There is a special place in hell for lawyers who facilitate men’s abuse of women through these lawsuits.

I love how in amsterdam houses that cost 2 million euros still have a ladder as a staircase to get to the bedrooms. (I do not love it.)

I know I'm healing since moving to Amsterdam because it used to be when my former boss was in the news I'd fall down a hole and spiral spiral spiral but now it's barely a blip.

So, is anyone with authority going to call out the changed diagnostic criteria for Autism, and how until recently people with Autism were misdiagnosed? (My kid wasn’t diagnosed til age 16.) And also correct the other blatant wrongs about Autism in RFK’s speech?

"He spent much of his career being mislabelled as ideologically rightwing or misogynistic when in fact he’s more of a simpleton who agrees with almost everyone who comes on his show, even when the things they’re saying are contradictory."

I hope JK Rowling gets a hair permanently lodged in her eye that causes her constant discomfort and drives her insane.

The Supreme Court gave Trump immunity so he can do whatever he wants, including defying the Supreme Court.

It’s a stunningly gorgeous day in Amsterdam. The young rowers are out on the canals. I love living here. ❤️🇳🇱

I think it’s hilarious that the word schitterende means beautiful in Dutch

Martha Stewart went to jail for less insider trading than this.

I’m so sick of this bullshit take. open.substack.com/pub/stroopwa...

For decades, U.S foreign policy was centered around the fear of war with Russia, and figuring out how to constrain its influence. Republicans consistently were at the vanguard of Russophobia. And then massive political shift emerged, in part driven by one wannabe American strongman.

“While in the interrogation room, Makled said, a man in plain clothes entered and began speaking to him. He said he recalls the man telling him: ‘We know you're a lawyer. We know you take on big cases.’”

I would not know the scope of yesterday’s peaceful protests by reading American legacy media reporting. It’s only through social media that I’m seeing how big and far reaching they were.

Canada’s official cautions about travel to the US should be front-page news globally. The US’s closest political and economic ally just told its citizens, in effect, to use burner phones when crossing the border. We’re in the backstory exposition of a cyberpunk dystopia right now.

Memoir of a Snail is amazing. See it in the theater if you can.

The British man who chased down the guy who stabbed 5 people in the center of Amsterdam yesterday was awarded a hero's pin by the mayor. Thankful this wasn't in the US because you can't tackle and sit on a person with an automatic rifle. nltimes.nl/2025/03/28/b...
