You can’t talk ppl out of it! I found that with sheriffs— it’s a genuine profound belief (mostly)

Oh I think many people justify violence that way see eg Stephen Miller.

That sounds about right.
So I met a guy who shot a pro-abortion judge (he’s in prison) and he was like, no regrets/ would do it again.

Just trying to think what’s so upsetting about when the 14th was written.

I mean there’s a definite impact on policy and laws, which is violent for so many, how we got here, etc.

This incorrect belief, which the FBI and DHS relied on, led to the surveillance of mosques as well as dozens of young people sent to supermax for being “religious extremists”. The evidence was often going to mosque and watching religious content.

Reporting on guns (and training on them) made me feel very different about it

That just makes it all the better! He's a victim like many of the sheriffs they recruit.

It has been in my mind the greatest threat, and now that Trump is president, there is no question. They are training police to be "anti-woke" figuring that they will enforce deviations on the local level. That's the long and short of it.

It's pretty tough and the policing/ jailing system is particularly unforgiving.

There is sadly quite a bit of data out there suggesting that the party of the sheriff does not substantively impact many aspects of policing, transportation, arresting, and jailing, and it's worth asking why.
comment in response to
post
The policing and jailing system is structurally designed to make the election of any "reform-minded" or "liberal" sheriff or prosecutor woefully inadequate. But there is little examination why.
comment in response to
post
While, of course, many elections "have consequences" as they say, focusing on a lack of candidates misunderstands the office and how it works. Many of these elections fail (even when the desired result is produced) and no one looks at why.
comment in response to
post
The electoral strategy assumes that sheriffs (and other law enforcement leaders) operate as individual actors and can or will change policies with the election of another person. This fundamentally misunderstands how sheriffs work.
We should look at law enforcement as highly organized nation-wide.

A friend dumped me for being “a downer” when I was genuinely struggling with depression, which just really hurt. I wish she’d just given me a fade-out and not been like, you are making me feel down.
