Additional detail: Most folks in this spreadsheet have their rates listed out for commercial use already, which is nice for ballpark estimates—though I'm not sure if/how often people update their entries when their rate(s) change, so mileage may vary re: accuracy!

This spreadsheet assembled (very helpfully!) by @ariananicolegeorge.bsky.social a bit ago can be a nice place to start: (Hopefully, the thumbnail will load correctly; regardless, it's a nice datasheet!) docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

Glad y'can make a fermal (thormal?) announcement about your EXceptional buddy! ...I dunno. My brain's a little soupy today. Point is: congrats! 😆🥳🥳

Honestly, I didn't expect either Revain or Arlaen to still exist, because the world server they used to live on (Riddermark) has been closed since Jan 2016—so I was pleasantly shocked that I could still say "Hi!"

(Yes, the joke here is in part that enough time's elapsed to where how I make characters in games has jumped binary lines. 😆 ...the other part's just that the old skin tone palettes meant a lot of people ended up *really* pale!)

If I had a nickel for every spherical, partially blue (look, Glalie's eyes count 🤣), grumpy-looking creature that makes Mike noises... I'd have at least two nickels! Congrats on BORB!

My stance on bug mounts is variable, but at the moment—considering that I just got out of a coworking/hangout session sporadically punctuated by grunting affectionately at the Last Stag in "Hollow Knight" (because @azufx.bsky.social was playing it)—I WELCOME OUR GIANT CRICKET FRIENDS 😤🥳

Anyway, this is part of why the Game Jam Waiver took ~6 months to get fully public; it's a tool that persists beyond strikemas + is arguably the easiest, most accessible way folks can be introduced to the union. …and it may not flawlessly click into existing TBA framework just yet, but we press on.

The "freely negotiable" flavor of the TBA (for games w/ budgets <$250k) means that, if you're a dev and want a game contract to be "Absolutely no Al assets in this game ever" rather than using, say, an informed consent model…the TBA can accommodate that. Freely negotiable = you + your actors agree!

The Tiered Budget Agreement can inherit things from the IMA, but the TBA itself is like a hat that can be worn by the *Independent* Interactive Media Agreement (I-IMA). The "hat" grants devs a lot more flexibility whilst preserving protections, which is why it's the structure the waiver rests upon!

Moderately saltea, though I'd have ho-Na-stly been pretty Cl-ueless about the salt if I hadn't been directly responsible for it 😂

Expectation: "The MaFiA!!!" Reality: "17 committees in a trench coat peopled mostly by volunteers; staff members who are spread too thin to manage the 500 Tamagotchis comprising membership's needs" Union bureaucracy falling over itself is frustrating—but at least it's rarely *intended* to be evil.

@mattrified.bsky.social's ongoing support for the game, balance tweaks/optimizations, and general responsivity is something I continually find so frickin' admirable. "Horse Around, Find Out" is also EXTREMELY fun + still makes me laugh harder than it's got any right to— mattrified.itch.io/hafo

Now: the above are U rates. Our friends in RTW states are often paid less and may not get a 2hr minimum (I'm not sure if it exists—I just know it's not mandated). The 2hr minimum means you'll be paid for all the time you were booked, even if you wrap early; you're not penalized for being efficient.

Sending both of you and your families (internationally and Stateside, as applicable) a massive hug and some very frayed brain-duct-tape. Like with certain politicians here, I shouldn't shout my thoughts about a given "Prime Minister" on social media, but... Bloody hell. 🫂

For games, some of it's the dynamism. Some actors (esp. those used to working in-studio) will set their levels for conversational volume and then not give themselves *quite* enough room when they go loud—so the idea's "Your conversational volume might be quiet, but we won't die when this gets big."

...Taylor, don't make me get Kylie so both of us can shake you over "Your levels are FINE and EASY TO WORK WITH" again. 😆 (Besides, I'd prefer you have a little extra room up top than smack into the Burrito of Doom!)
