from the writer of GUY RITCHIES ALADDIN GUY RITCHIES AMADEUS Jason statham: name's salieri. famous fucker, me. until - *freeze frame and record scratch on mozart* this precocious prick plonked his arse at the piana fuckin forte

I had a very productive day today, and it's always great when a very productive day happens to coincide with a day where you can sit in your hammock chair reading a book and drinking a negroni.

ngl, we are one Billy Dinner-ass family

Never more aware of the familect than when I’m driving other people’s kids around. Like, instead of asking ‘have you got your seatbelt on’ every single trip (boring, inefficient) I say ‘HACKER VOICE’ and my kids reply ‘I’M IN’. This is harder to explain to other 9-year-olds than you might expect.

Hey, here's some nice stuff I did today: - went to get ice cream with the kids, and we watched the local team playing AFL while we ate it - I read my excellent book and drank an excellent beer in my excellent hammock chair - I'm making deep dish pizza for dinner

Me opening bsky to skeet my silly little thoughts

I fear I am the only person who orders stout at the cinema, but I'll keep ordering lest they stop stocking it

Next up I have BRING HER BACK, which I am sceptical of, even though I did love TALK TO ME, and even though I generally trust whatever A24 releases

It's Jez's Movie Night! (a fast follow to Jez's Movie Festival, aka #sydfilmfest) I just saw THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME and while I love Wes Anderson, his films are becoming the Avengers films of the Wes Anderson Cinematic Universe.

I really wish this were not a verbatim quote. Alas.

4yo: "Dad, do you want to see my spot the difference drawings? You have to find the all the differences. For example, the girl on the left is wearing a dress, and the girl on the right has the cold dead eyes of a killer"

Lol

This is why satire is dead. A military parade scored by Creedence Clearwater Revival's anti-Vietnam song "Fortunate Son" should be pure comedy.

As always, the #sydfilmfest shorts program was fantastic. My particular favourites were INTERVIEW WITH A HERO (increment the "films that have made Jez cry" counter) and FACELESS, but I'm glad we had DIY providing some levity at the end too. All the films were great though.

Well I've made it to my final session of another epic #sydfilmfest. Fortunately, there's still 10 films to go because it's the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films! Always a lovely way to finish my festival.

I am going to make it easily. Once again my reminder that I bake in more buffer time into things than I think.

DREAMS (SEX LOVE) was very nuanced and finely balanced, and I think I need to reflect on it. I can see why the Berlin jury helmed by Todd Haynes would love it. #sydfilmfeat

I've got another absolute PISSBOLT after this session to get back to the city for the Australian Short Films screening. I possibly could have planned this better, but who doesn't like a bit of danger in their #sydfilmfest schedule.

Next up at #sydfilmfest is DREAMS (SEX LOVE), winner of the Golden Bear at Berlin this year, which has historically been a good sign that I'll like a film.

ROMERÍA: Once again Carla Simón gives us a complex family drama revealed in fragments of memory. Like an orchestra playing a symphony, every element has its place, and Simón conducts with great skill. #sydfilmfest

First up today is ROMERÍA, after which I will have completed the #sydfilmfest Competition films for this year.

Today is the last day of #sydfilmfest! But I'm making good use of it, with 13 films on the schedule (2 features, 11 short films), including the last of the Official Competition, this year's Golden Bear winner, and the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Film.

Seen this going around but I’m Reposting it with the full alt text bc everyone deserves to read this glorious reply from Boy George

REDUX REDUX: the best programming for the Freak Me Out section at #sydfilmfest is either High Concept, Schlocky or Genuinely Terrible, and that one was Schlocky and High Concept so that's a big win. Loved it.

Alright, my final #sydfilmfest film for today, and my second from the Freak Me Out section: REDUX REDUX.

THE LOVE THAT REMAINS: heavy on symbolism, light on narrative. Let's just say my favourite part was when someone was cutting mushrooms on screen, and the person behind me hissed excitedly to someone: "Mushrooms!!" #sydfilmfest

Anyway tonight's first film is THE LOVE THAT REMAINS. #sydfilmfest

I am heading to my FIRST evening session of this year's #sydfilmfest, and I'm very excited that I finally get to sit in my favourite seat in the State Theatre (a subscriber stole it for the daytime sessions this year). This is a tweet about ?autism.

Now I have a break before my next film, so I'm sitting in an excellent bar with very good beer on tap and Fiona Apple on the stereo. #sydfilmfest

IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT: a great film from a great man, but honestly far from my favourite from Panahi. Some of his signatures are there, but I prefer his layers of metafiction. I wonder if this is getting plaudits because it's more straightforward in its storytelling. #sydfilmfest

Alright, big deal film coming up now: IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT from Jafar Panahi (who is apparently in the house!). Palme d'Or winner, in a sold out State Theatre. This is going to be A Thing. #sydfilmfest

THE BLUE TRAIL: a wildly entertaining dark comedy dystopia. Such wonderfully compelling characters living in a fully formed but weirdly alien world. #sydfilmfest
