Should it be ISO-NE or ISONE (it’s not CA-ISO, e.g.)? 1ļøāƒ£ ISO-NE (I’m hidebound) šŸ…±ļø ISONE (Geez, you’re right. Banish the hyphen!) 3ļøāƒ£ Is this a constructive use of our time? Really? šŸ“… Ends: May 18, 2025, 4:15 PM UTC šŸ“Š Show results

Okay, I’m going to point out once again that Maine is in a privileged geographic position.

ā€œOver the last three years, residential electric rates for investor-owned utilities have risen 49 percent more than inflation. Meanwhile, the rates at publicly-owned electric utilities have increased 44 percent less than inflation.ā€ commonwealthbeacon.org/opinion/why-...

EPA's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund is a political target for repeal - even after a federal judge ruled it should continue. But GGRF can cut energy bills $52 billion + add $65 billion in investment. Destroying it wastes economic opportunities for America. thepowerline.substack.com/p/epas-green...

I wrote something about Tony Blair's proposed "climate reset". Do we need a climate reset? Absolutely. Will it look anything like Tony Blair’s version? Absolutely not! Whether you agree with me or not, please subscribe to the Thoughts of Chairman Michael. mliebreich.substack.com/p/why-tony-b...

Will @iso-ne.com’s record low demand (5,318 MW), set just three weeks ago on April 20, fall again today?

Brilliant to eliminate Energy Star, a program that costs $32m but delivered $40b in annual savings. None other than the US chamber of commerce tried to save it as a model of business/government partnership. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/06/c...

We love you #NREL

The pipes that bring natural gas to buildings leak methane, which can hurt people if it explodes or heat the climate if it doesn't. Fixing these leaks can cost $billions; in many cases, it's less expensive simply to shut down leaky pipelines and electrify the buildings they used to serve.

The Warming Stripes have now been extended downwards into the ocean and upwards into the stratosphere! Collaborative paper which tells the story of how the stripes were developed, and discusses their extension across the Earth system, is now available in BAMS: journals.ametsoc.org/view/journal...

Maine benefiting from -$154/MW New Brunswick power.

Great early recounting of what occurred in Spain/Portugal, with fair warning against early hot takes fueled by priors.

Another note on my ad-hoc US review this morning, Trump's anti-renewables stance does look quite a bit like trying to hold back the sea, with solar especially taking out a noticeable chunk of gas gen now a days. (EIA source data)

Good morning with good news: US residential solar median price hit record low of $2.50/W in H2 2024. Prices fell 6.4% from H1 2024. Median price was $3.75/W in 2014. US payback period was 7.1 years. Lowest-priced major state was Arizona at $1.99/W #energysky www.energysage.com/press/energy...

I’m not a Brit, so will one of you please tell me…has Tony Blair faded into complete irrelevance, yet?

After being hit in the head with a two-by-four in Oct. 1973 you would have thought the U.S. internalized this lesson. But, petroleum companies… The U.S. didn’t go all in on renewables, it focused instead on developing more secure sources of petroleum. www.marketplace.org/story/2023/0...

I no longer work for or live in Boston, but I am donating to @wutrain.bsky.social’s campaign. Having worked for her—& the three Mayors who preceded her—I know she’s been an effective and successful Mayor. Boston’s not a toy to be bought by a rich Dad and his rich friends to occupy his bored kid.

You are stranded in deep space, on the only habitable planet for 4.2 light years, cut off from communication with other star systems, having only the crudest technology available for living off-world. You have everything you need here. Take care of it. There is no alternative. Happy Earth Day!

SCOOP: The White House asked FERC Commissioner Willie Phillips to step aside, he told me today. He will step down effective immediately. His exit from the commission will allow President Donald Trump to tap a replacement commissioner. More for Pros: subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2025...

Solar panels are now so cheap that the cost is paid back in *one year* of avoided LNG imports. ā€œFossil fuels are like renting a home, renewables are like owning one.ā€

Solar is surging in Saudi Arabia. Why? A main reason is Saudi Arabia cut subsidies of fossil fuels! Price of diesel skyrocketed more than 40%. Subsidies for burning fossil fuels globally are $7 trillion per year. Carbon price of zero is biggest subsidy. #energysky. www.ft.com/content/f6dc...

Even a casual reading of Trump’s energy/climate Executive Orders makes this crystal clear. Ketan’s right. You can justify renewables by pointing out their alignment w/ the administration’s goals & it won’t matter one whit other than to underscore their hypocrisy, & that’s been underscored ad ā™¾ļø.

Personally, I was beginning to feel like chopped liver. What a relief to have the eye of Sauron cast its gaze longingly my way.

New record for lowest recorded load served by the regional ISO New England grid = 5,237 MW, 1,577 MW less than the previous 6,814 MW record set Easter Sunday 2023.

On this Easter Sunday @iso-ne.com is predicting New England will shatter through its record for low demand on the regional grid. The current record low is 6,814 MW set 4/9/23. Today, the ISO is predicting that regional load will drop to 5,290 MW ~ 2:30 pm. isonewswire.com/2023/04/11/n...
