It's surely in part b/c athletes dislike the large well padded concussion preventing helmets or helmet padding, that are less streamlined and aren't cool looking, and really want something that seems simple and unobtrusive. And probably a bit too good to be true.

And here is my friend's bluegill painting he received from his son!

Yeah it was pretty natural to incorporate an 'eh' here or there! Didn't even realize I was doing it, till a Canadian friend pointed it out. Makes it harder to place my odd Southern IL dialect too.

I'm actually headed to Cincinnati tomorrow, for a few days, so I may give this phrase a whirl, see how it goes, and report back.

I keep meaning to get a rug like the '80s arcades or roller rinks, for my home office. Now I guess a shirt too!

I've started this game with our Corgi, where we sort of play hide and seek with her toys, and I hide and ambush her to grab and tug them away. But she sometimes ambushes me too. Let me tell you that a 30 lb corgi can knock me to the ground by jumping at the back of my legs at full speed!

I mostly added a lot of "ehhs" to the end of sentences for a few years. And I grew up in IL but people here tell me I sound more Southern. My wife grew up in Wisconsin but with a parent and grandparents from Arkansas, and also really did combine a lot of "Y'alls" with "don't ya knows" and so forth.

When I was a grad student I happened to have a number of friends and classmates from Canada, & did end up picking up a few Canadian phrases and speech patterns. Which was a fun combo with my rural, slightly Southern sounding accent.

My son painted me a Father's Day bass at art camp this week and gave it to me today!

Stuffed grape leaves are one of my favorite appetizer foods, that I never think to order or make any more! But love them.

Similar experience when I was a kid, staying w/ my family in a St. Louis hotel where NY Mets were staying while in town playing the Cardinals. The team invited us to eat breakfast w/ them the next day, left us tickets to attend the baseball game that afternoon etc. Very cool experience!

Yum. I sat and drank too many of those little Turkish coffees with rose water once, while with my wife at a conference years ago. Kind of got the zoomies, like a puppy! 😀

I don't necessarily love most tools and trying to fix stuff but really have enjoyed using our riding mowers and doing yard maintenance or landscaping. I actually said to my wife the other day that I could go for some overalls too! 😂

Not sure why I'm seeing it, but I did have this happen to my thumbnail once when my wife repeatedly slammed it in a door because she didn't realize it was my thumb keeping it from closing all the way. Hurt too much to scream. Thumbnail fell off and grew back all wavy, still has kind of a big divot.

Similarly, always loved when Mr. Rogers put on his casual Cardigan sweater and sneakers, to signify it was play time or fun time.

But catch myself saying stuff that belongs in a progressive commercial like "mm hmm That's some good lookin' mulch" or " what you wanna do is mow in straight lines there ..."

You too! LOTS of work but we're enjoying it. Found a perfect location in town, a mile from our offices, couple blocks from a Y, at the end of a deadend street next to a cemetery, lots of mostly wooded property: so thus not as much to mow & maintain as there could be. Spontaneously bought it & moved!

Haha, no chickens here, but yeah since we moved to 3.5 wooded acres w/ a lake a couple years ago, I've also made many statements I wouldn't have previously thought possible!

Yes, I'm thinking of moving to something like this for undergrad honors theses or Master theses. Our participant pool has dwindled to the point of being impossible to get meaningful sample size, every student project will be underpowered. If it were up to me we would only use public archival data

On our return to Chicago from Europe last summer, customs also pulled aside my then 9-year-old son to ask him a few questions about our trip, where we'd been, etc. He proceeded to give such a detailed recap of everything and everywhere we visited, they were finally like "Okay Okay that's enough" 😆

And car tires! Really, the surprising costs of many common things could be a whole year-long or more class in high school.

Our Corgi definitely does this with our shoes, of she's upset or needing attention!

I remember just going to movie theaters constantly through the 80s/early 90s, at least once or twice a week. I even made friends go see 'Stop! Or my mom will shoot' in a theater & got teased relentlessly for 30 years (was the only thing we hadn't seen).
Maybe go to a movie every few months now?

We have relatives in FL who refuse to set foot in the entire state of IL, largely because of what they see about Chicago in the media!

Yeah, pretty much what happened: we legitimately (between me, my wife, & 2 kids, but mostly me) eat at least 30 cups of greek yogurt a week

Pretty sure then that's where I actually first tried Thai tea!
And yes, everybody drank sun tea when I was a kid. Don't know what happened to it either? But definitely need to bring it back

I used to love Thai iced tea and probably from that exact place, if it's in St. Louis. Also grew up drinking a lot of sun tea in Southern Illinois, and think I'm going to try to make some the next. Pretty warm and sunny day we get here!

My wife never learned to type well, so hates email too, and usually prefers brief meetings or phone calls to save time. I on the other hand hate almost every meeting and would much rather get and receive emails. Except for rare occasions, when we need to connect or plan something or brainstorm etc.

I think I ended up liking them more than bon Jovi after that concert, too!
Pretty sure my mom and some of her friends wanted to see Bon Jovi even more than I did, though.
