I respected Jake Tapper. But this book he collaborated on is so infuriating. I don’t think that the narrative about Biden’s cognition is entirely false. But they’re only focusing on it to deflect from Trump not being able to complete 1 coherent sentence. Tapper gave them a gift.

This thread just sparked an idea: A White House edition of the game Clue, and one of the weapons would be a cheeseburger. Clue is owned by Hasbro, but I bet they’d license it to Mattel just for this special edition šŸ˜

Gotcha. Good night

Ha—I’m 5’2ā€ but I’ll take you.

On the left celebrating in comments sections the young couple who were murdered last week also feels surreal. I’m just asking you to please not invalidate that.

But I think that’s more reason for all of us on the left to support each other. Yes, we all feel on edge. It’s a crazy fucking time and I honestly am very scared for so many targeted groups, and the end of the US as we know it. *And* seeing people on the left in comments sections celebrating

I think the replies I just sent already cover my response to this.

And I’m also far more scared for your trans stepson than I am for myself, btw. For immigrants. For people who will be losing health insurance. This isn’t a contest I’m trying to win.

Far more aggressive and deadly, should I not even be allowed to feel some anxiety over my own disease. I know that it’s very different, but I had to put it into that context to describe what your argument sounds like.
comment in response to post
Your argument seems to be that because many other marginalized groups experience far worse—and they absolutely do—that it’s not ok to even recognize the rise in antisemitism. I have cancer. But it’s chronic, treatable, and very likely won’t kill me. So by the same logic because so many cancers are

What an amazing story and kid! The cynic in me is wondering if any federal funding goes to this program, and how long will it take before the admin declares that it’s DEI and cuts it.
comment in response to post
I’m pretty surprised the bromance lasted as long as it did. Think Trump will ask for that key back?
comment in response to post
But I don’t think it’s fear mongering, nor do I think Jews have it ā€œworseā€ than all of the other people being targeted by the admin and hurt by their policies. Multiple truths can exist at once. I’m 51. I’ve never in my life seen the level of antisemitism that I am seeing now.
comment in response to post
Extends to Jews. It is not antisemitism to criticize Israel. But it hasn’t been one attack, it has now been 3. A couple was murdered just last week. I’m not at a point where I’m personally scared, but I live a pretty secular life.
comment in response to post
Oh I think that’s absolutely disgusting—it’s straight out of the fascist playbook. Using the pretense of antisemitism to justify their Islamophobia and xenophobia is infuriating. But that’s the thing—I think it also adds to the growing anger toward Israel (which by the way is justified), but then

This already isn’t aging well.

People are being attacked. That’s legitimately scary. It is not anywhere in the realm of what Gazans are experiencing every moment. It is possible to continue to be outraged and call for a stop to the slaughter in Gaza and be concerned about rising antisemitism. That’s not violence. It’s reality.
comment in response to post
I’m sorry but what? I hate what Israel is doing. It’s abhorrent and goes against every tenet of Judaism and most basic Jewish values. But recognizing that there is a very real and pronounced increase in antisemitism in the US isn’t ā€œcentering myself.ā€

I agree, but I’m not knowledgeable enough to know who should be enforcing them, and how. This is such uncharted territory. What should happen if the administration flagrantly breaks the law—that ā€œconstitutional crisis?ā€ What recourse should happen? It’s a really scary thing to watch play out.

I cannot even fathom the rage you must feel, every single day. You will be remembered as the hero you are. All of you officers who defended democracy that day. This awful chapter will be studied for ā€œhow did it happen?ā€ But you will be one of the heroes in that story. It’s not enough. I know.

I just listened to your story on the NYT Sunday read podcast. Words fall short here, so I’ll just say it was brilliant. So much of your ambivalence about writing it resonated with me (51 yr old US Jewish woman). But you did so with such eloquence. I’m so glad Mr. Lindenblatt was able to read it.

Infuriating. I’m so sorry. A colleague of my husband’s was studying vaccine hesitancy. Her’s got taken, too. Elon musk is so worried about population decline but his actions are going to lead to numerous deaths.

BB is essentially Trump. And, they’re not a secular democracy. The haredim have a lot of power.
comment in response to post
I appreciate this. I spend too much energy sometimes on futile exchanges.

It’s all performative. Undocumented immigrants aren’t eligible for any benefits. But I have heard so many people on the right claim that they are a drain on our social welfare system. So much ignorance, and so little willingness to learn.
comment in response to post
But I’m not threatened by people protesting Israel because of Gaza. That’s not what makes me feel unsafe.
comment in response to post
I do feel less safe than I ever have though. But I blame that on BB, ultimately. I do think antisemitism has risen as a result of Israel’s actions in Gaza. Can you honestly tell me otherwise? And I don’t want Trump using us as rationale for his Islamophobia. So, in a sense, I do feel less safe.
comment in response to post
So are you agreeing with the other person who claimed that antisemitism doesn’t exist, or that the holocaust had nothing to do with it? I cannot even follow what you are getting at.
comment in response to post
And I think you are conflating Zionism and Judaism, if you want to know the truth. I’m not a defender of Israel. I think BB’s actions in Gaza have been abhorrent. But you keep speaking in generalizations then saying you’re not. So I don’t know what it is you’re getting at. I’m just tired.
comment in response to post
You said, ā€œdo any of those other groups feel that wayā€ when it was pointed out that they were also persecuted and gassed in the holocaust.

my own limited interactions with both Muslims and their scriptures.
comment in response to post
There is fundamentalism in all of the world’s religions. This is what I’m getting at and have been this whole time. You’re trying to tell me what the Judaism I was raised with believes. You’re both mansplainin’ and Jewsplainin’ here. I would never try to claim something about Islam based on
comment in response to post
And, have you ever seen passages of the Quran? Even the Christian bible talks about enemies. But there are tenets of Judaism—the values of the Judaism I was raised in, that emphasizes ā€œlove thy neighborā€ and fosters interfaith community, not seeing ourselves as perpetual victims like you both claim
comment in response to post
But this isn’t even true. You’re telling me that gay people don’t feel persecuted/discriminated against? Disabled people? All marginalized groups feel a sense of discrimination. Personally, I feel more privilege than persecution than many other groups.
comment in response to post
It really is dependent on the type of cancer. I have a chronic form of leukemia that can be put in remission for long periods of time, but as of yet, they don’t consider it curable. But I’ll take ā€œkeep it at bay!ā€
comment in response to post
Well, I just had a most bizarre exchange with someone who seems to be on the left insisting to me antisemitism doesn’t exist. Why do I even attempt to engage with absolute garbage arguments?
