YIMBY here. I want abundance of good things and scarcity of bad things. Both, at the same time. I think a center+right alliance on deregulation runs a significant risk of being co-opted to accelerate buildout of both good and bad stuff, which could easily have net-neutral or net-negative results.

I saw this on The Guardian and know it will be a woefully uncovered story by most media.

"The key to lasting peace is clear: Putin must get nothing that justifies his aggression. Any rewards shows him that war pays off. If Putin decides who joins NATO or where NATO's infrastructure can't or can be, his appetite for war will only grow," Zelensky.

JD Vance and Trump are incapable of the leadership and resolve of Zelenskyy. Thank you, Volodomyr. Most of the world thanks you.

Just released. My Nature piece: "Never before has the USA seen such an anti-intellectual, anti-science assault... History tells us that there are times when the dangers of inaction become sufficiently threatening to individuals or the planet that scientists... rdcu.be/eo3Hb

💥 OPERATION SPIDERWEB: Russia lost over 36% of its strategic bomber fleet on June 1st, 2025. Over $7 billion in damage but more importantly the aircraft are irreplaceable in the medium term.

Experts reviewing RFKJr's magnum opus MAHA health report conclude that the whole document was faked by someone using Chatbot AI, and was probably never even proof read. They're not just fraudsters, they're very lazy, too. www.the-independent.com/news/world/a...

For four long years I was told not to call what’s coming our way fascism but here we are:

Good news -- Appelate court rules that CA Board of Forestry's plan to clear millions of acres of native chaparral habitat for 'fire hazard reduction' is illegal, bc it fails to address the impact of type conversion to invasive weeds that increase flammability. 🌏 chaparralwisdom.org/2025/05/31/a...

Yes, terribly important. Not considering up and downstream effects ignore the enabling effect of the proposed project.

So fucking true. Oh, and all the federal warnings about copyright on videos and movies.

There is literally nothing but Trump's desire to protect Putin which is keeping the USA from levelling harsh sanctions on Russia, providing Ukraine more weapons, and helping Ukraine win its war against a sub-par Russian military.

Who needs data, analysis, and counterpoint when you've got a handy answer?

"Species’ historical niches are becoming increasingly mismatched with contemporary climates, even in highly mobile taxa, raising concerns about the ability of wildlife to persist in a warmer world." 🌎 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

So I guess in "media speak" cognitive decline is the term for gone bat shit crazy.

🇺🇦 Zelensky: Russian strikes are becoming more and more audacious and large-scale every night. 900 strike drones against Ukraine in three days, plus missiles - this makes no military sense, but it is a clear political choice - Putin's choice - the choice to continue fighting and destroying lives.

I call it The Beast because it’s a lot heavier than my road bike, but it can do a lot, and can still fold up to fit in a foyer or trunk

Forgive me, but if your "industry" depends entirely on stealing someone else's work, it deserves to die. "Nick Clegg says asking artists for use permission would “basically kill the AI industry in this country overnight.” www.theverge.com/news/674366/...

Because after all, blaming others for problems is so much easier (and cheaper) than solving them.

This piece by George Wuerthner on indigenous burning is detailed and may lead to disagreement but give it a read if forest resilience is a topic of your interest. www.thewildlifenews.com/2020/10/29/i...

This statement by White House spokesperson Leavitt violates Trump's EO on scientific integrity because it is a blatant lie and abuse of fact.
