Okay, it is 50-140 million tonnes of CO2, not carbon. Then the extra carbon sink on a per unit area basis is ~90 - 250 gC m^-2 yr^-1, which can be reasonable. 😀

With around 50-140 million tonnes a year more than the previous estimates and the land area of 150,437 km^2 (South Island), the extra carbon sink would be ~330 - 930 gC m^-2 yr^-1. This extra sink is really high and might be too good to be true.

If you burn down a forest, you don't miss out on lumber for just that season. You have to replant all the trees, nurture them, and wait for them to grow. The science and research budget cuts happening now are wanton, senseless arson. Recovery, if it ever happens, will take generations.

A lot of people indeed have switched to Bluesky. I am still using Twitter, though, partly because Bluesy is not good at pushing posts that I like yet.
