Just to recap, Trump has taken the extraordinary step of federalizing 2000 member of the California National Guard — over the objections of the state’s governor — in response to a protest that currently involves A FEW DOZEN PEOPLE AT A HOME DEPOT

🚨 THREAD: What just happened in Los Angeles is not normal, and it differs from past deployments of the National Guard in key ways that you need to understand. This is a breakdown of the history, the playbook, and why this move reeks of bad faith.

It's actually adorable that this far into the Trump era we think an explosive, hugely consequential story can have a full 24 hours at the top of the news cycle before the next explosive, hugely consequential story comes along to replace it.

Reminder that this country had an insurrection on Jan 6 and Trump refused to send in the National Guard.

Biden won the Dem primary specifically by promising Jim Clyburn that in exchange for Clyburn's endorsement, Biden would nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court. Biden made the promise, Clyburn made the endorsement, and within 48 hours Biden went from like 10% to 40% in South Carolina.

The Trump administration is trying to invoke martial law. This is not the time for this kind of hedging. This is the time to take a stand for democracy, rule of law, and freedom of association.

This thread.

the white house thinks brute force is, no pun intended, a trump card. they don’t anticipate pushback and they don’t know how to handle it with anything other than escalation. the issue is that each escalation is itself a gamble. if protesters refuse to back down, you’ve lost face. (1/?)

When the topic of states rights came up in grad school, my professor looked at the class and said "No one ever has sincere preferences about jurisdiction." That was the end of it.

Missing from the headline: both judges in the majority are Trump appointees.

Appeals court rules that the president can punish a news outlet based on the content of its coverage by denying it access that it has had for generations. If the decision stands, it represents a major blow to press freedom @zjmontague.bsky.social @minhokim.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2025/06/06/u...

Anyone know where to find the record for most consecutive base runners who failed to score? The Dodgers are now at 20.

It's all fun and games until the fascist president threatens to shoot the First Amendment in the face because he's afraid his ex might decide to go back to his old flame.

Los Angeles school worker shares frustration over parents having to leave their children’s graduation ceremony because ICE raided an elementary school’s graduation today

There is something majorly wrong in the Braves front office.

Welcome to America, where protesting illegal kidnappings without due process is an insurrection, but attacking the nation’s Capitol is not.

I’ve said it before but it is embarrassing that so many intellectuals spent years in small factional battles over the propriety of calling this fascism.

This could easily be a shot from that Civil War movie.

Someone tell the leftists and the centrists, the Biden folks, the Obama folks, and the Harris folks and everyone in between, that they're all pretty and/or handsome, they can all go to prom, and they need shut the fuck up so they reshape the circular firing squad into something actually useful.

Pete Hesgeth — who wants to rename the Navy ship that honors Medgar Evers, a WWII veteran who landed on Omaha Beach — is using that same beach for a photo op in which he promises we will “never forget” the veterans there. What an unbelievable asshole.

We’re now seeing paramilitary ICE raids in LA — with full on military garb, military tanks, flash bang grenades & the arrest of a major labor leader. This is a core manifestation of fascism — using federal forces to put down dissent. If we don’t stop this now, this is the future everywhere.

When one side is mad at you because you didn't substantively & enthusiastically endorse their fascist agenda and the other is mad at you because you betrayed democracy and basic human decency; yes, these things are symmetrical, sure

Dear journalists. When the US President is openly accused of paedophilia the story is either impeachment or defamation. If not, the story is how words have lost all meaning, truth has lost all value, and journalists are now completely desensitised to lying and corruption.

Tyranny. Ruling blue states like we're conquered territory that lost a war not equal citizens in a democracy.

Un-fucking-real.

AAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Pulling funding from Dem-lead states was always going to happen. And it's still illegal and unconstitutional.
