Well, hold on now, let's not start engaging in crazy talk. </s>

That all depends on the goal. Perhaps consider some set of scenarios where it's a completely rational and necessary thing to do. And consider who's doing it when applying the phrase 'rational and necessary'.

If you don't understand that he's admired for that, you're not getting it.

IOW Everyone is free to believe whatever they like. And say so. Publicly. And everyone else is free to consider those beliefs completely and utterly absurd. And say so. Publicly. And they should.

But you'll silently allow others to do so? Sure, they have the right to believe whatever. No one has the right to inflict falsehoods on others without risking having to face being told that they are wrong and that by spreading falsehoods they make themselves a liar and a fraud.

Or their false sense of superiority sold their humanity. You're not wrong, but I think this has some merit.

Iranian leadership: Wow, didn't see *that* level of incompetence coming. Americans: Toldja so.
comment in response to post
Yes, that's right Iran, we really have put utterly incompetent people in charge. If Iran spent more time understanding the American people, this would have been much less of a surprise.

"...their children sit through the teaching of things their religion teaches immoral." Like math? Chemistry? ... that everything is made of atoms... Biology? ...yes, even you, no 'soul stuff' required? Geology? ...the Earth is older than 6000 years Falsehoods are OK, as long as it's religion?

Or communism, or socialism, or... <fill in the blank> Can we give JS Mill some love? "... I did not mean that Conservatives are generally stupid; I meant, that stupid persons are generally Conservative."

Moral of the story: Think very carefully before applying Bible stories to real life.

And they're even worse when combined.

"The love of money..." And religion.

And they say the others are CINOs. Yep, it turns out "I know you are but what am I" is about as useful in the real world as it was in the schoolyard playground. Also, Christian Nationalists are Christians. Just ask them.

Pretty sure having 'California' in the name depressed sales in the mid-west.

You give them too much credit, don't assume they have a plausible excuse. Also, for some of them, they *are* doing the right thing... for Jesus.

Religion poisons everything. And it always has.

It wasn't a statement, well, it is, but of the interrogative sort. It's not making a claim, but asking a question. As has been pointed out, overthrowing a religion based oppressive government is very much "for religious reasons". Religion and religious belief still rightly deserves the blame.
