Vinyl collector - especially 7” singles, meditator, member of Triratna Buddhist Order. Seem to have developed a thing for vintage paperbacks. Low woo threshold, likes an evidence base.

I’m back at Adhisthana - the weather is gorgeous, and the gardens are breathtaking, great food is cooked for me. It feels more like being at a Tuscan villa than being at work.

What is common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders? The purpose of meditating is not relaxating.

Some delightful wax crayon action on this 7” sleeve - can’t help thinking it might not contain the disc for which it was originally decorated. #VinylSky #WeekendSingles

Ah! I’ve just remembered I agreed to get up at 3.45am to take my ex and our daughter to the airport 😑

As #WeekendSingles saunters to a close, here’s a dozen Beach Boys 7”s. I often use this copy of Good Vibrations as an example of how well 7”s could be made in the 60s. It still has remarkable punch, depth of field, richness and warmth. Brilliantly played, recorded, mixed, mastered, cut and pressed.

There are lots of more important things I should be doing, but I couldn’t resist another batch of vinyl triage. Found this and couldn’t place it, so checked it out on YouTube - colour me gobsmacked. Check it out - it’s a very particular kind of bonkers youtu.be/Iw53esk0mZc?... #WeekendSingles

The only King I’ll acknowledge

A serious question for once. Can anyone recommend a good contemporary introduction to organisational structures, please?

If you’ve lived in London you’ll have lots - one of mine: Walking through Covent Garden I pass Kevin Rowland. I turn and call ‘Hey Kevin’ He turns, and we step towards each other Me “Well done on bigging up Deaf School on 6 Music the other day” KR, slightly confused “yeah, they’re a great band.”

There seem to be dozens of early Desert Island Discs which include things like “After I was demobbed I wasn’t sure what to do with myself, but one day I bumped into a chap at my club who asked me if I fancied running The Light Programme. So, I turned up at the BBC the next Monday and gave it a go.”

Patina and cobwebs.
