It was wonderful seeing @shellyjlundberg.bsky.social today at @cdnwomenecon.bsky.social luncheon. This lecture is so worth your time 👇

Area burned over 1 million hectares in Canada and increasing. Second only to the 2023 in terms of area burned for this time of year. @ciffc.bsky.social ciffc.ca cwfis.cfs.nrcan.gc.ca/maps/fm3?typ...

My flight from YKA is delayed, so I am missing my connection to YUL in Vancouver. So…..now a 7hr trip turns into a 13hr trip and I will now be on a Red Eye. Ugh classic @aircanada.bsky.social

My wife: “like what is wrong with you guys? Seriously”

Everyone who wrote splashy features about how Elon Musk is done with Washington

Elon Musk doesn’t appear to be going anywhere — and according to federal workers, DOGE has been busier than ever: www.wired.com/story/doge-e...

*TRUMP: ALL MANUFACTURERS WILL BUILD THEIR PARTS IN THE US <-- no, not going to happen *TRUMP: YOU BUILD A CAR, MAKE IT IN AMERICA <-- nice sentiment but not if you mean parts supply chain *TRUMP: OVER NEXT YEAR, AUTOMAKERS NEED WHOLE CAR BUILT IN USA <-- physically impossible

This is the key thing to understand—there's no such thing as an all-American car. Even US-brand-US-assembled models don't use anything close to 100% American content. Trying to do autarky for car parts is totally unrealistic and just going to drive up costs and hurt domestic manufacturing.

For @thenarwhal.ca, I considered why people feel so entitled to parks. Public space! My tax dollars! Racism! Good news, I address all that here: thenarwhal.ca/bc-parks-fir...

Ending my May 50K for MS Canada, still hoping to raise a few dollars, and have some company for a morning jog at the @canadianeconoassoc.bsky.social meeting Saturday morning. (If it's not raining, 6:30am, 5K ish). Send me a note if you'd like to join me! Or help me support MS research and donate!👇

Memo to Alberta's federalists and anti-separatists: stop accepting Danielle Smith's premise that the province has been screwed over by Ottawa. It's time for more facts and fewer feelings. #cdnpoli #abpoli www.nationalobserver.com/2025/05/29/o...

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expresses support for our tariff case.... and I get quoted, too. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

Every persistence study be like…

“Who are the DOGE leaders? Why, they’re everywhere around you. You’ll find them in the small laugh of a baby, in the cool breeze on a warm summer day, in the gentle caress of a mother with her child. There you will find the DOGE leaders.”

This is obviously good, but we need to stop doing referenda/plebiscites on issues that are fundamentally about evidence/science. Citizen votes are about values. Otherwise, governments should just govern.

A spectre is haunting Canada...

Not a supporter if O’Reilly, but these petitioners are out to lunch

Kamloops Fire Rescue urging caution as weather warms, fire risk jumps #Kamloops

Time to follow suit @kamloops.ca @nancybepple.bsky.social

My advice: don’t panic. Think about where we are, where we would like to be, and what may happen if we reauthorize without considering these impacts.

Musk and crew got what they came for

This should absolutely be a scandal which people lose their jobs over. You'd have to assume that anyone in power actually cares though to think that would happen, which obviously would be a bold assumption in present circumstances.

Spending money on a tax cut when we desperately need investments to shift the economy away from the US, to increase research spending, save health care and universities, and rebuild the military, is immensely irresponsible.

Heads up for #Kamloops residents: In an email, Kruger says the pulp mill in the city is holding a practice evacuation in a few minutes at 8:30 a.m., meaning the mill alarm systems will sound. Residents nearby may hear it. Kruger expects it to last 60 minutes.

Why is Kevin O’Leary on political panels? He is a reality TV guy, but I guess that tells you all you need to know about what they are going for with these political panels

NEW - The BC Government has passed Bill 15 by a vote of 47-46 with speaker Raj Chouhan being forced to break a tie. The bill is opposed by FN leaders, municipalities across the province and major business organize nation. #bcpoli

Getting stuck while we're writing is a feature, not a bug. It's the point of the exercise. It's what happens when we are trying to express something we have not expressed before. That friction forces us to make the tools we need to understand and express it. Getting stuck is how we make meaning.

Only in Canada (Newfoundland, to be precise)

The scale of Trump's graft as documented by @davidfrum.bsky.social in bar chart form (made by o3)

Thinking about Jordan Peterson reacting to No Scrubs for the first time.

Hey, Trump's pardons only sometimes reward political violence. The rest of the time they reward corruption.

Manitoba declares a provincewide state of emergency on Wednesday as wildfires continue to threaten communities across the province. Premier Wab Kinew says it comes as roughly 17,000 people are now under evacuation order.

The Vancouver School Board creating a graphic showing how it's going to take 23 years to build a single school for a centrally planned neighbourhood in the heart of B.C.'s biggest city serves as a hilarious indictment of how planning happens here (credit to @city-duo.bsky.social for flagging)

Time for Canada to stop dragging our heals on student visa approvals

I just can't with this asshole.

Trump is going to destroy the global economy again to prove he isn't a wuss
