I got passed today by a Tesla with an anti-Elon sticker. Using a bike lane as a right turn lane.

And I don't want to seem overly nitpicky. It's a great project overall. I'm finally back to bike commuting after a 3-year absence, and the protected lanes are a significant upgrade.

The other head scratcher for me is why the Michigan Street lane is paint only between Sherman and LaSalle. Few curb cuts, plenty of room, but no concrete or even flex posts.

I was going to ask you. My guess on Michigan Street is that because there is a choke point at the railroad bridge between Sherman and LaSalle that narrows to a single lane, maybe they can't actually mark it as two-way. But for 90% of both streets it's plenty wide enough for two-way traffic.

Need the Land Grant Trophy painted on the 50 for the next PSU-MSU game.

To be clear, not minimizing the current news. I agree he should resign and I voted against him in the primary.

Yeah, "below average Democrat or Montgomery Burns" wasn't a fun choice, but it was an easy choice and I would do it again.

Slick definitely deserves a statue. Helped save the franchise, greatest coach in team history so far, legendary announcer for decades, hit the game-winning free throw for IU in the 1953 NCAA championship game. Part of the fabric of basketball in this state for the better part of 70 years!

Well, whatever.

Today was my first true bike commute in almost three years. I chose will for once.

The guy mentioned in Tucker Carlson's yearbook entry?

Very few good choices right now. Red state universities gutted from within, blue state Us will be targeted by the feds. Private schools will be attacked by both. Grim times, dark timeline.

Also an insurrection lawyer in 2020 and election fraud fabulist. Antivax and extremely antigay.

I guess I'm out of the loop. I had no idea there hadn't been a Bloomington campus chancellor since 2006.

What would they gloat about? Braun isn't moving against Purdue because it's already Republican-dominated.

There was a pedestrian death on US 31 South, just north of Greenwood Park Mall, a couple of years ago and the news stories all noted that the person was not on a crosswalk. But the closest crosswalks were Thompson to the north and Smith Valley to the south. On a road with a bus line!

But 2014 was pre-Trump. I have no strong opinions about McGrath but she ran 40k votes and 7 percentage points better than Biden.

I despise everything about that guy. Trying to insert himself into every story. His obnoxious purple prose writing style. His feigned deep emotional connection to local teams. And he's icky. Cannot believe that we're stuck with this guy as the only general interest sports columnist at the Star.

During the Cubs' run in the 2016 baseball postseason, I gained some grudging respect for Yankees/Red Sox/Dodgers fans for enduring such an emotional meat grinder year after year.

I hope Bill Cassidy never enjoys a good night's sleep for the rest of his life.

I've mentioned this enough that my kids now roast me every time it happens in a game we're watching. "What an abomination!" "This isn't basketball!" etc.

Maybe. I don't know Ohio law on this or whether the CBA applies it more broadly. But the work comp bar generally means you can't sue your employer for a workplace incident, not that you can't sue anybody. (He played for the visiting team).

As for why it didn't settle, it certainly could be because of a damages dispute (lost earnings, medical causation, etc)

Correct, especially sports/outdoors/fitness activities. In Indiana there is no liability for actions within the "ordinary range of behavior for participants in the sport." But I agree, this seems outside of that and not at all like suing someone for a hard foul or HBP.

Interesting how selective the "just the facts, ma'am" approach is. He can pop off like this but can't possibly say whether Biden was an effective president.

Maybe Chris doesn't want to look like an MSU homer but Dantonio is too low.

As an attorney I can tell you it's pretty common after car accidents among people of all ages. I got rear-ended earlier this week and was holding my breath for a couple of days. Of course, as a fellow old guy i was trying to decide if I was feeling new pain or my usual everyday aches.

Everyone talks about the debate, but his excellent 2024 SOTU performance has been memory-holed. That was comforting at the time! It was always a tough spot. 82 is too old to run for POTUS. Also hard to give up incumbency or to sideline the only pol who ever defeated Trump. Major hindsight bias.

Not to diminish your driving skills, but that might be the nicest alley anywhere in the old city limits. I had no idea there could be an alley without enormous potholes and random rectangular patches.

Brazil, Canada, and Australia seem like obvious answers, but I've only been to one of the countries and none of the capitals, so maybe unfair.

Indy was a Reds affiliate for a few years in the '90s, but they apparently preferred Louisville when the Cardinals moved their AAA affiliation from Louisville to Memphis.

If Gary is Cubs territory it has to be close to 50/50. The White Sox have solid minority support throughout Lake County and east to South Bend/Mishawaka, but it drops off a cliff after that. I'm originally from St Joe County and would guess it's probably 75 Cubs/25 white Sox.

At least among Catholics, a lot of it is coming from incredulity. The most liberal nuns to the most doctrinaire priests agreed we would never, ever see an American Pope in any of our lifetimes. Still can't believe that we have a Pope who probably knows what business has the phone number 588-2300.

That said, I'm not sure why the city needs as much land as it is saying it needs to widen the trail by a couple of feet.
comment in response to post
"Land grab" is quite the word choice for the headline of what's nominally a straight news story.
