Starting my vacation with mango cheesecake and stout.

It's the glorious 25th of May. Truth! Justice! Freedom! Reasonably priced love! And a hard boiled egg! #GNUTerryPratchett

eight years ago today we all watched the glory of zendaya falling madly in love with tom holland and the internet was never the same

Magnolias are nice this time of year

The separation of church and state, as a foundational principle of the US, is routinely, falsely, claimed to be a person-to-person norm, like "you can't tell me I am wrong". This idea (and sports) (and the electoral college) are all major causes of the crises.

I scrolled for a while but I didn't see this take so I am posting it, though it is trivial. "Houthi PC small group" doesn't make any sense as a chat group name unless there are several other chat groups- and certainly a big one. This is obvious, right?

Well I see that there is YET ANOTHER group chat from which I have been rudely excluded

@bryguy.bsky.social I heard you are enjoying Civ7 - I saw this and thought you might be amused.

Financial Times reporting that Tesla's accounting looks weird ($1.4b missing). This isn't what I would want to be normally posting about, but it is a story that I think could use more reach, and so it is what I am posting about.

1. New York college student with green card arrested without charges or due process. 2. New Hampshire electrical engineer with green card, too. 3. Brown University professor with valid work visa, too. I am scared and angry. This is straight from the "First they came..." story by Martin Niemöller. 😬🤮

I feel fucked up talking about the student activist in New York being targeted. On the one hand, it's not news the fascists are evil or crossing every bright line they can find, and I have no insightful take. But OTOH, like the Niemöller story goes: "Then they came for the green card holders..."

I loved this two-video series by Linus Åkesson, who is an amazing programmer. This is the first one, showing a magic trick: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ws4t... This is the second one, explaining the mechanism: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXxS...

I went to Food Not Bombs Wilmington's Saturday meal today. It was a nice experience! If you are local, maybe join? If not, maybe there is a Food Not Bombs near you? https://linktr.ee/FNBWilmington

A cool historical fact I learned today is that globally, but especially in the Western Christian tradition, regicide is historically pretty common - between the years 600 and 1980, approximately ~14% of Western monarchs was killed, or deposed and then executed, by their subjects.

I enjoyed this bit of infosec news: https://www.dailydot.com/debug/lexipol-data-leak-puppygirl-hacker-polycule/

Big "Particle Man by TMBG" vibes from today's xkcd.

I enjoyed this slice-of-life piece interviewing two r/aita posters: https://www.wired.com/story/reddit-am-i-the-asshole-relationship-advice/ (BTW, I understand reddit has a fairly terrible reputation, but I think the truth is more mixed, and the article claims and demonstrates that.)
