"It's fine because the executive order is still barred in blue states." Folks, PEOPLE IN RED STATES DESERVE HUMAN RIGHTS TOO, AND LOTS OF IMMIGRANTS AND MARGINALIZED PEOPLE DIRECTLY IMPACTED BY THE EO LIVE IN RED STATES.

This is US policing in general. Can't separate what's happening with ICE from REGULAR US policing. Some do not want to hear this but it's true.

Today is the birthday of African American science fiction author Octavia E. Butler. The winner of numerous Hugo and Nebula Awards, she was the first science fiction author to receive a MacArthur Fellowship. #💙📚

If you were too young in 2003 here is what Bush told the American people: 1) The Iraq War won’t cost a lot of money 3) We won’t need a lot of troops 4) We’ll bring peace and freedom to Iraq 5) We’ll find WMDs 6) We’ll be welcomed as liberators 7) It will be easy 8) It won’t take long All lies.

If you think it can’t happen here, remember that it already did. In 1942 soldiers came with rifles to our home and ordered us out. They put us in internment camps. Most of us were citizens.

1. Alert, and please share widely. A lawyer at the ACLU has asked me to inform my transgender readers that they should NOT be applying for passports right now - the state department has not issued guidance to comply with the court order and they are urgently trying to get them to do so. 🧵

Those concerned about violence might want to start with violence against immigrants, by ICE here, by illegal deportations to gulags and third countries, the violence against so many federal departments, against the law, the climate, the public lands, waters, civil rights, reproductive rights...

"When I saw the images of prisoners in El Salvador, it triggered memories of my own life in U.S. prisons. I’ve been in since Ronald Reagan was president and I’ve always found it difficult to communicate certain aspects of the experience," writes Troy.

It’s my birthday today, and all I ask is you give even a dollar to my favorite news outlet in the world.

Oral argument in Trump v. Casa and consolidated cases in which President Trump challenges the issuance of nationwide injunctions stopping his anti-birthright citizenship EO. A good day to re-up this, I thought.

In case anyone thought the Griffin concession signaled any kind of pullback on trying to rig elections…

Glad to see the end of that lawsuit, but this is the right energy. So much damage done and he’s still on the Court of Appeals. Even signed his name to decisions this morning.

Trans women are women. Relatedly, if you are looking for a great story about a young witch or wizard, I would highly recommend Ursula K. Le Guin’s “A Wizard or Earthsea” (1968), which I loved as a kid, or “Akata Witch” (2011) by @nnedi.bsky.social, one of my son’s recent favorites.

If these abductions do not push every single one of you to question the existence of immigrant "detention" centers and the conditions of ALL prisons and jails, then you are really doing life wrong. Conditions in detention, jails, and prisons in the U.S. ARE TERRIBLE. They are awful every single day.

The Republican members of the North Carolina courts continue to try to steal an election Telling overseas military members-and others-that their votes may not count is a breathtaking affront to our democracy and their service - it’s cheating We will continue the fight for voters and for justice.

Seems we may have found one of those “paid protestors” after all.

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

The library is the only place that Americans experience the fullness of what it means to remove goods from the market. It pings our consciousness. Hey we could love differently!
