If it weren't for Trump, they'd be speaking German in Stalingrad.

If Coca-Cola put arsenic in coke, Rolls-Royce sugar in the gas tank, or Disney switched to porn, they could not do a better job of destroying an iconic brand than Trump with "The United States of America". All irreversible.

So true.

I know for a fact my Alma mater in the UK is a huge beneficiary of this. All this talent could quickly catapult the UK and Europe into the premier AI league.

I don't need to. The market would crash. But there is so much short term US debt which needs to be refinanced, they might not have to sell. Just get repaid and not buy any more.

Bessent claims we can grow out of debt. Debt/gdp now is 1.32. Under Reagan it peaked at 0.4. Assume a target of 0.6 in 10 yrs and a balanced budge for that period. So debt remains constant and costs 4% p.a. I'm lazy so used ChatGPT. To hit the target GDP must grow 12.3% for 10yrs. ?????

Bessent claims growth fixes the US debt/gdp ratio at 1.3. Assume we want to reduce that to 0.6 in 10 years. (Under Reagan it peaked at 0.4.) Assume a balanced budget so debt remains constant at 4% p.a. How must GDP grow to hit 0.6 in 10 years. Answer: 12.35% per annum. What does that tell us?

The whole political and financial system's at risk. The world needs a leader. Bessent is outgunned. Carney, like Churchill, I believe is the man of the moment. Amazing CV plus 80% support at home. Much you may never see but that's good.

Read Citizen Soldiers: The U. S. Army from the Normandy Beaches to Berlin by Stephen Ambrose. He summarizes WWII as "Once the battle over, Germans shot, Japanese beheaded, and Russians raped. GI's handed out chocolate." Says it all and explains the last 80yrs

I feel for Mike Pence. I don't like the way he empowered evangelists. I do understand his loyalty conflicts. But can there be any doubt that this is a good man? Who, if everything he said I was opposed to, I would want him as a worthy opponent. Proof of the old adage..no good deed goes unpunished.

Compare Europe in the 1930s and now. Einstein fled Germany for the US, ensuring Hitler never had a nuke. Europe now is mounting a campaign to attract talent here that feels unwelcome. Statistically, there's a chance some of the unwelcome o/s students here will win Nobel Prizes. Ignorance is bliss.

He doesn't know the difference between deficit and debt.

I could not believe he said he would not deal with a judge interfering in foreign policy. Rather than enforcing fundamental rights here at home. You have to wonder how they would deal with, say, an attempted Trump assassin who flees to a country with no extradition treaty

Trump never did a deal that LASTED

No problem. Who cares? Ooops. I forgot. Hitler forced Einstein to leave Germany. Proving Hitler didn't really want an atom bomb. Did he??? Would the last person with an IQ in 3 digits please put the lights out as you leave

Very bad taste. Vance is more than capable of self-destruction all by himself. He doesn't need help.

The SBA is chasing 115 yr olds and $630,000 of loans. Chinese imports=$500bn p.a. $500bn×145%= $750bn EXTRA. 2 mos inventory =$120bn of extra working capital for the import community. Even if you could pass on the increases, how do you finance it to find out? Why is the SBA not addressing this?

Just saw Cass vs. Larry Summers. It was the Eagles vs. the high school football team. Summers gets something Cass never will. Trump has alienated every friend the US made over 80yrs. Unless you have deep overseas roots, with respect, you are completely incapable of seeing this. Totally.

Bessent - everything is "to plan"??? He is ignoring his charge. He just planned $16tr of wealth loss??? 12 U.S. Code § 5213 (2)providing stability and preventing disruption to financial markets in order to limit the impact on the economy and protect American jobs, savings, and retirement security
comment in response to post
The UK and NY courts have for 200yrs been the legal anchor for most that moves on this planet. For maybe 80% of global trade. Which to choose was always nuanced. But not now. Why would you use NY? This could be a saving grace and windfall for London. A big loss for NYC.
comment in response to post
Per 12 U.S. Code § 5213, Bessent's charge is: "(2)providing stability and preventing disruption to financial markets in order to limit the impact on the economy and protect American jobs, savings, and retirement security" Admitting this is "all to plan" means a conspiracy doing the EXACT OPPOSITE

Yamamoto famously said after Pear Harbor - "all we have done is awakened a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve" Trump woke up a sleeping giant - The bond market

Because he thinks he can. 80% of all business globally is either UK or NY law. Almost ever deal I did involved a choice of which to use. And that could be Indonesian LNG to Japan. The choice was normally up for grabs. But this is a godsend for London and a loss for NYC
