Tried it in 2008 and didn't get into it.
After playing FFXIV for a while, I started to hear the most amazing, adventurous, and nostalgic stories from FFXI players. I felt like I had missed out!
My first serious attempt to get into it was 2017. I'm trying to get way more serious now!

I would go so far as to describe this by saying that FFXI is a game first, and an MMO second.
With certain other titles, it can sometimes feel like they built an MMO but forgot to have a game as the foundation 😅

I feel the same way. FFXI is not just a game you simply play, it's an adventure you have to plan for. You have to chart a course through the world.
If you're lucky enough to have a friend to play with, coordinating that preparation adds to the sense of journey.
It's a beatiful and immersive game!

Picked up the manga because I saw it at the store and recognized Obata's artstyle, which I love.
Had no idea it was connected to that movie until I was partway through and tbought "Wait, was it based on this???"

Getting serious about it is quite a commitment, but you can have a fun time just exploring the story and lore, too.
I also HIGHLY recommend playing Granblue Fantasy Relink if you enjoy action RPGs!
