The purpose of mainstream Western news apparatus is NOT to teach you how to build democracy. It's to teach powerless and dependence on the ruling class. The liberal doomscrolls, then votes nationally, and writes their senators, yet this takes no power whatsoever from their enemy.

I cannot stress this enough! What got me through the first trump admin was participating in direct action. It was liberating. And dont feel you have to put yourself in danger, just go and add your voice to the chorus. We survive this through solidarity and mutual aid.

When I switched to mostly plant-based 10 years ago, it saved me money, improved my cooking, and it made me feel more connected to nonhuman life and larger + older cultures than my own. In my case, it was a comfort + entitlement that normalized my meat eating. Glad I grew beyond that.

I'm sure a lot of the resistance is "what if I get it wrong?" If you're doing your best to learn and act, and that informs the art, it's basically the opposite of having Twitter Brain: "What if I got it wrong" becomes "Here's what my real best looks like right now".

I've been drawing over 30 years now, and used to relate to this struggle. I learned that the more skin I have in current events, the more motivation/inspiration I have to do art about it. Act. Show up offline (if you can, you must), then let what you feel with your own skin be your inspiration.
