A pleasure. I should have said that the room she was renting had actually been Laurie Lee's room. I forgot to say that.

'60's btw.
It's such a wonderful book with so many memorable bits. The idea that a ship would be sent along the coast to retrieve any British citizens and evacuate them from danger now seems like some kind of ancient dream.

and she said 'ah Laurie, he used to play his violin for us in the kitchen!' And it turned out to be the same boarding house that he writes about in 'As I Stepped Out'. My mum was thrilled and she wrote to Laurue Lee to tell him and he replied but she's long lost the letter sadly. This was in the...

When my mother was a student studying stage design she had digs in Putney and was set an assignment to design a set for a poem and she chose one of Laurie Lee's because she loved Laurie Lee. The landlady wandered into her room and asked what she was doing and when she told her she went all wistful..

They're good luck here in the UK, esp if they cross your path. I have one by the name of Steve Albini asleep on my bed at this very moment which I consider extremely good luck

Stunning. Brochs are such wonderful, exciting structures. I'm obssessed with them. I got to explore several ruins on Skye recently and visited the two amazing brochs at Glenelg. So tantilising to imagine them in use.

The Longest Day is a really fair account and devotes time to the major allies including the Free French and the resistance. Nothing made recently though. The only mention the UK forces get in Saving Private Ryan is when they slag off Monty

I mean, if it was 1939 maybe... we do have a couple of big aircraft carriers but the aircraft are from the US so I guess Anal Musk could just switch them off if he has a hissy fit

Btw, the important thing that I forgot to mention in the Avebury story is that Florrie reportedly had her throat slit, hence the relevance of all the sharpened tools creeping ever closer to her on the bed every time Becca closed her eyes on that horrific night...

Thank you. I'm a huge fan of the movie and Bill Forsyth's movies in general and have been since childhood so was thrilled to get to do this. I think it's a lovely adaptation, I really hope you like it.

It used to be 'the question' in decades past: 'the Irish question', 'the Jewish question' etc. etc. The language of prejudice and oppression

😆 that was exactly my first thought.
It's buns here at Easter, traditionally. With crosses on. Not that I care. If you want to have scones and call them biscuits good on you. They look delicious whatever
