Yes consistency is the style guide people's eternal argument. We didn't cap it up on first mention until quite recently, though, so progress is being made...
comment in response to post
It's capitalised on first mention, which I think is ok?
comment in response to post
Indeed

Also, more complicated border procedures haven't stopped Brits using planes or day trains to travel to and within the EU, so not sure why they would impact Brits' appetite for night trains... (if decent services existed, which is what the article is actually about)
comment in response to post
Who's "us"? Seventy percent of people who visit the Guardian website live outside the UK. Just not sure how Brexit's relevant to an article about night trains in continental Europe.
comment in response to post
The article's about night trains in the EU.

Grateful? I'm ecstatic!

Haha not really a joke but def self-deprecating/ironic which I should obvs know by now is *never* a good idea on social media
comment in response to post
Stephen's obvs right on massive influence of games on modern life and my remark was self-deprecating/ironic (always a bad idea). Maybe I'm just totally unrepresentative but I could count the number of friends/acquaintances my age (65 ahem) who are even semi-keen gamers on the fingers of one hand
comment in response to post
It was a joke
comment in response to post
Please see previous reply... God to know self-deprecation and irony remain no-go areas on social media!
comment in response to post
No worries!
comment in response to post
Brilliant! And for sure, I have friends my age who are enthusiastic gamers. Just - proportionately - not very many of them, certainly compared for example to the proportion of my son's friends who are!
comment in response to post
Good to see irony is still a mistake on social media! Of course I'm not "proud" of not being a video gamer. Just noting that among my generation it's a bit less of a common pastime.
comment in response to post
Haha fair comment
comment in response to post
Well exactly. Which makes it a generational thing ...
comment in response to post
For today's over-65s I think it may be, at least partially
comment in response to post
Proud to be of a generation that took one look at Pac-Man, said WTAF, and has never looked at a video game since ...

And I just note that it is not useful to confuse temporary border controls imposed by Germany eight months ago with the status of the EES. And also that we have in fact published three articles about the status of EES since then, the latest on 20 May.
comment in response to post
He really has issues... What astounds me is that he seems not to realise (or perhaps care) that this kind of behaviour just means no one will take seriously anything he says.
comment in response to post
Hi Elena, we have reported often on EES progress. The article you refer to was not about the EES but about the danger (recognised by many member states) posed to the hugely valuable Schengen system if countries like Germany repeatedly reintroduce border controls for essentially political reasons
comment in response to post
Just flagging to anyone interested the latest troll account of Gyles/Chauncey/Bernard Black whoever: @nedbroy.bsky.social
comment in response to post
PS it speaks volumes that you can't even spell Schengen ...
comment in response to post
Oh hi again Gyles. You don't give up, do you? A shame you still can't read. Blocking you as soon as you've seen this.

Just this minute hit the button on mine!

Ah, that's an error - a hyphen has been removed, presumably by someone who doesn't know the name of the green party is actually GreenLeft. I wrote "Green/left alliance" but should probably call it Green/Labour alliance to be absolutely clear. Will get that fixed.

Tarik was going to write something for us in this bit I don't think it's happened yet - I think it's a great idea

I'm sure you were excellent nonetheless!
