I have always said that hospitals should be forced by law to give parents a manual with each kid--and that rule should go into that manual. I wish I had known about it!

That's sad. It surprises me, but I believe you.

I agree. Those who were pro fair use before are still very much in favor of it. Strongest reactions (and actions) are coming from those in the other camp (eg Disney)

Nope. It’s a reference to the consequences of controlling AI access to copyrighted texts

I am sure you mean “give the people of PR the choice of becoming a state if they want to”

I call this the Nicolas Cage effect...he is in so many bad movies that they all blend into one...an unrecognizable one....

I am not surprised at this. The connections between conservative thought and Girard are well-known. There are a couple of organizations that have devoted themselves for years to spreading his ideas offering grants and other types of financial incentives. Sounds like conspiracy theory but it is not.

So unfair to all those Pierre Menard imitators who are trying to recreate 19th century translations of 21st century novels using only their contemporary social media life experiences

Movie is great--Sean Connery, of course--but doesn't show enough of the pope stuff

In that sense, MeToo, while different because of the local concerns in the US, is still part of the same "movement"? And of course, at the literary level we always depend on local versions--it happened with the avant-garde

I think the problem here is how we define a transnational movement --like, aren't transnational movements a local manifestation of a transnational set of ideas and views, but with differences that address local issues?

Obviously, micro-blogging is the right format for this type of conversation but wouldn't you say that NiUna Menos created a "different mental state" (using the 15-M definition) that impacted MeToo and in that sense they both respond to the same impulse?

Jeff, it would be interesting to see if we can get Latin American scholars to look at what you were doing in the book (understanding the literary field of the Americas through the notion of the "literature of experience") and start doing it with social movements. Lot's of work to do in that space.

Maybe we should wait for the book? 😀 Maybe Lawrence spoiled us with what he already achieved in *Anxieties of Experience.*

I would understand if we were talking about a book, but I don't think there is enough space in an essay for ELH to include anything beyond what he already does with his inclusion of the perspective of the 15-M movement, for example.
