For starters they shouldn't have partnered with Toyota and encouraged so many drivers to get a bZ4x with a charging curve that is far from industry leading, making charging a bigger headache than it needed to be 🫠

I suppose technically it worked 'well', the taxis technically worked, they could drive, pick up and drop off passengers. It's just the economics that didn't work out, which is quite important of course!

I don't see anything to take up with the taxi firm? They've recently acknowledged that since their inception in 2015 there has been significant progress in electric vehicles and charging, which is why they've now partnered with Electra for charging and are focusing exclusively on BEVs in Paris.

Hydrogen Mobility Europe estimated a BEV with an 85kWh battery (fairly common now) would have enough range to cover 99% of daily operation for taxis. So with access to overnight charging there'd be no downtime. Meanwhile, new BEVs charge fast enough that overnight charging wouldn't be necessary.

Without any (bad) emissions...at the tailpipe, but they did use grey H2.

Occam's razor, Total put up prices because they want to make a profit and subsidies to them are either not as generous as in other EU regions and countries. And/or, unlike some other H2 distributors they don't see a future market worth selling H2 at/below cost to now in the hopes of it growing.

I care a great deal about ghg emissions, water usage, climate, & sustainability, which is why I'm keen to understand these issues. It just seems like concerns about AI are often overstated, it certainly has some negative impacts but they don't seem catastrophic & there's some scope for mitigation.

post
I'm not really finding any expert articles which make or substantiate that claim?

"current AI engines pose an environmental threat of catastrophic proportions", why do you think this is the case?

Yes, although looks like they switched from quarterly to monthly in the chart from February which distorts the trend a bit.

Fwiw I also don't think BlueSky has the right balance, specifically with the block implementation. Any sufficiently contentious debate between two people can be nuked by one of them blocking the other, rendering it unreadable by anyone, it happens often and hurts debates on here imo.

I think the lack of enforcement has it's own counterproductive chilling effect. That said, the biggest problem X has right now with regards to public debate is the pay to win nature Musk has implemented. bsky.app/profile/josh...

Not to mention that letting '卍 Aryan Queen 卍' & co. harass people can have its own chilling effect. People targeted by hundreds of racist would reasonably be expected to use the platform less, who wants to post about their marriage/etc if it's going to be swamped by racists?
comment in response to
post
As I keep saying, I think you can strike a balance between fostering constructive debate and the free exchange of ideas while also not letting '卍 Aryan Queen 卍' harass black & Jewish people. It wouldn't be perfect, but I don't think the status quo is either.
comment in response to
post
Perhaps the issue here is you think I want to block anything that could conceivably be called racist, whereas I want a moderation system that is lenient, tries to foster public debate, but still cracks down on clear racist harassment like the example above. I'm not saying it's easy or simple!
comment in response to
post
Yes it would be important to try and ensure any moderation system doesn't stifle genuine debate about contentious issues. X appears to try and consider that too in their guidelines (although might just be inherited from Twitter):

Hateful conduct and harassment are against the X guidelines, along with attacking someone on the basis of race/etc:
comment in response to

I'm not too concerned by it personally (or triggered...), especially as it doesn't apply to me, but I do think it's harmful to the platform. Is the onus on anyone posting about their interracial marriage to block the hundreds of racists that might descend on their post like in the example?
comment in response to

Depends on the context and content, but someone verbally attacking a settler or Hamas supporter could be harassment, not sure why you think I've ruled that out? bsky.app/profile/josh...

"I think you keep confusing posts that trigger you", let's keep this respectful Auke, I'm not confused or' triggered' by the posts, we just have a difference of opinion on how to balance freedom of expression and harassment on social media.
Could you point out where you think I'm mistaken?

Why is coal 28% more expensive?

I'll happily concede that the difficulty of moderation is that it involves drawing a line, that striking a balance is hard and will not placate everyone, but that should be a responsibility of running a platform. I'd also agree that balance should avoid stifling public debate.

"Discussions about eugenics are off limits (because Nazi). Discussions about racial traits are off limits.", no, these are also not harassment. I think you can agree that there's a considerable difference between a nazi harassing an interracial couple and people discussing racial traits.

"Posts saying positive things about DOGE are also off limits (because Elon Musk 'is a Nazi')."
No, as I suspect you'd agree that Elon Musk is not actually a Nazi and that "卍 Aryan Queen 卍" is a Nazi, and saying something positive about DOGE is unlikely to constitute harassment.

X already does this, but the enforcement is inconsistent. transparency.x.com/en/reports/g...

Wrong. As I've said, it's about striking a balance. Posts about Gaza wouldn't be off limits, unless they also involved harassment & clear anti-semitism, and I'm not suggesting putting the ADL in charge of determining that. Nobody is ever going to be 100% happy with moderation or lack of.

What are the fundamental changes that would make coal more expensive (inflation adjusted)? Labour costs up and requires proportionally more labour than other sources, or mine closures, new regs (that Trump might try and undo)?

Thank you! Looks like it is intermittent, UFH + rads, and set to run at 30% in wait mode, and min permitted speed of 25%. Problem (minor) is after DHW heating it doesn't seem to circulate and so the temps are elevated from that and take ages to cool down when mild...will query forum later 🙂
