But those are all big abstract discussions. Everyone deserves to be able to Walk To The Store is concrete and I’ve yet to meet anyone who disagrees. Indeed, I say “make it legal to turn your garage into a cafe” and people light up. They know exactly what they’d sell. It unlocks dreams.

And it means rethinking zoning, which exists to separate shopping areas from eating areas from working areas from sleeping areas, even though all of those are *living* areas and belong mixed together.

…public safety. Public safety doesn’t have to come through a badge and uniform. Sometimes it’s about road engineering or neighbors who can politely, quietly, keep an eye out and make sure a kid doesn’t get lost or into mischief.

And standing up for what you believe and advocating it consistently and thoughtfully is *how you sway public opinion*. Which has to be part of the goal for any long-term political strategy for a party or movement. Not just win the next election, but win the next generation.

Where Democrats’ values are not widely-shared and the resultant policies are not popular, Dems should still advocate them because ITS WHAT WE BELIEVE. Even if people disagree, they respect someone who stands up for what they believe.

Idea that standing up for someone abducted & sent to foreign concentration camp - as part of a fascist power grab you are meant to be *in opposition to* - is bad move, & getting on stage to say so, means you have zero interest in confronting what we face, including winning the next election.
