Pretty sure the singularity is going to be massively stupid. Still an AI apocalypse, just a far stupider one than anyone ever imagined. pressgazette.co.uk/publishers/d... #ai #singularity #tech

Over the last five years, we've been failed repeatedly by individuals, companies, and institutions. The reliability of society seems to be plummeting across the board, but relying solely on oneself feels unsustainable. What are any of supposed to do with that?

I'm so tired of the political theater. I want to feel the schadenfreude with y'all, but I really just want both of these dipshits and all their buddies to leave, so the rest of us can catch our breath, clean up the mess, and get back to our actual lives.

Incredible thread 😂

So there's this incredible stage play by Eugène Ionesco, called "Rhinoceros": en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhinoce... It *absolutely* captures this feeling of everyone around you turning into rhinoceroses—sorry, I mean generative AI advocates—while you feel like you're slowly going insane.

In my former life as a #gamedev we had these same "idea guys". They always expected to direct many-million-dollar game productions without learning any direct production skills of their own, because "ideas". Yeah, guess which subset of game devs are all in on generative #ai now?

Human beings WANT community. So social media CAN be absolutely charming and happy. But if people are having a good time, then right-wing assholes have to FUCK THINGS UP. They brigade in from Toilet Town, hose shit everywhere and ALWAYS MAKE THINGS WORSE. Be a good neighbor -- delete these toads.

The ludicrous softball interview with an Irish OpenAI exec in today's Irish Times has pushed me over the edge and I am now the kind of man who writes letters to the editor of the Irish Times.

It hurts me that this is in r/AskHistorians

"Is coming" 🙃

Discord updates too damn frequently

LLMs are such a joke 🫠

Love to see this, from the "states' rights" party 🙃

I realize this take is super lukewarm at this point, but I am really very sick of this #ai shit destroying every single thing I've ever wanted to do with my life. What future do you AGI dorks imagine, here? What do you think you're *solving*?

I was trying to capture this bumblebee friend on our foxglove, but it kept scrambling up inside the foxglove blooms where I couldn't get a shot, so I guess we're staging on a blue cornflower instead! #bloomscrolling #photography

You know, I expect to run into some roadblocks when pivoting a career and starting a new business, but today the universe is just flipping us the double bird. 😡 Well I have news for the universe: behavior like that doesn't make me quit; it makes me *defiant*. Tenacity is my superpower.

I must not quote dunk. quote dunking is the mind-killer. Quote dunking is the promotion bad take havers want. I will block the take haver. I will permit it to disappear. And when it has gone I will turn no eye to see its path. Where the quote dunk would be there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Well these are incredible 🤩

I'm not sure I understand what jobs we're meant to do after this. When you automate everything away, but still require people to somehow magically pay rent, you're just sowing the seeds of a big damn revolution.

Was having an impatient moment in line at the post office today and it occurred to me how conditioned we are to seek maximum productivity and efficiency in every context. Resist that impulse. Slow down. Make a few cents less for our overlords.

Wait are you saying I get Benoit Blanc and creepy religious horror *in the same film*? ~swoon~

Some of the sets in this are bonkers gorgeous 😳

Why is it like this every single day

We live in incredible times 🫠

This is the way. If you want a long-term, sustainable career, you've gotta own your work. joshsutphin.com/blog/ownersh...

You know, I'm really trying not to let my time on BlueSky be all about doom, but it's so hard when shit like this is happening *every single day*

I just don't know how to function in this timeline any more, y'all

Obviously easier said than done in times like these, but fundamentally: yes 💯

This is the only correct answer. I've used one for 16 years, and there's still no better choice out there. Even the Aeron is a poor substitute.

My brain in 2019 / my brain today

My wife just discovered this, and reader, I was *unprepared* en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_(a...

This thread is another reason I backed away from the news. The regime being in charge means more normalizing of regime speech. It's also why I don't pile on bad takes anymore. We think we're "debating." What we're actually doing is spreading messages more widely and normalizing them.

The introvert urge to stay up far too late because it's the only time you can be alone

Share. We all need to focus on this.

Seattle for sure, but I'm also real partial to German. I never knew some of y'all are out here putting cabbage or coleslaw on hot dogs, and now I have a new thing to try.

Me: working in Windows today because I have to use a specific proprietary software that's unavailable elsewhere. Windows: hahaha updates bro

Gah, so close!

Gotta love how we can't be bothered with proper antitrust action any more because the real threat to the nation is apparently folks not buying enough ads on Melon's fail platform www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Show a moment from TV/Film that broke your heart

okay but has the center tried holding just a little harder, or

The reason you're having trouble concentrating if you are here in the US is because we're basically being chased around by serial killers and being asked to disregard the fact.

I'm sorry, they called it the "One Big Beautiful Bill"? This government is run by children 😂 In less funny news, they cut Medicaid and food stamps so they can spend more money deporting people. The cruelty is the point, etc. www.seattletimes.com/nation-world...
