Starship blowing up is a bigger deal than you think. It’s not a prototype in a sandbox anymore, it’s a $4B NASA contract to land humans on the Moon ($2.8B initially, $4B with follow-ons). Every explosion is taxpayer-funded hardware going up in flames.

"Stop this war, stop this dreadful war," says Attorney Raja Khatib, who lost his wife, his two daughters, and his sister-in-law in the Iranian missile strike on Tamra this week.

On Al‑Eidiyah St in Gaza City, displaced residents queue outside a closed UN World Food Program soup kitchen. Among them is Asmahan Saadeh, 43, cradling an empty pot. “I’m pregnant,” she says. “This is the 4th day I’ve come here and returned with nothing" www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/world/israel...

In October 2023, a satellite passed over Rafah [in Gaza] and photographed the city. The image showed a dense mosaic of buildings, solar panels, mosques, roads, public squares, farmland. In June 2025 a satellite again passed over the city. Hardly anything remains. www.haaretz.com/israel-news/...

Maintaining a dead woman's body for 5 months then delivering a one pound highly premature baby from her corpse is a cruel medical experiment. If ever you wonder why there are high levels of medical mistrust in the Black community, remember this story. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

A couple points re: Iran: 1.) Sticking with the deal we had w/Iran on nukes would've been smarter 2.) Striking Iran's nuclear program is likely just to slow it down not stop it 3.) The risks associated with such a strike include Iranian escalation against US & allied targets

A month ago, Gisha submitted a new and urgent petition to Israel’s High Court, together with partners, calling to open Gaza’s crossings and allow unfettered access for aid and other goods vital for the civilian population. The state continues to drag its feet. mailchi.mp/gisha/furthe...

"While Israel has scored major hits, it is apparently not close to removing Iran's nuclear enrichment or ballistic missile infrastructure, & doubts are surfacing as to how long Israel could sustain absorbing Iranian counter strikes," writes Daniel Levy, an astute analysis zeteo.com/p/trump-neta...

Not exactly a secret, but anyway. Israel has its own secretive nuclear weapons program, one that it doesn’t publicly acknowledge but that, some experts believe, is also expanding. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/17/w...

Today marks nine years since Jo Cox MP was murdered by a far-right extremist while serving her constituents in Batley and Spen. Jo dedicated her life to building a fairer, more compassionate society, and her belief that “we have more in common than that which divides us” continues to resonate.

Three days ago at Woodstock Bio in the woods of Soběšín, Czech Republic. Science in the sun. So much fun, so sorely missed. Thank you @odedrechavi.bsky.social @natanellae.bsky.social @itaiyanai.bsky.social and all the instigators, speakers and revellers.

The surprise attacks on Iran, which began on Friday, have highlighted the country’s apparent lack of preparedness for war — including its paucity of shelters, bunkers or functioning air-raid sirens. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/06...

"It might sound trite to say but the nations of Iran and Israel have, in fact, no reason to fight another. Our countries don't share a border, don't have historic disputes, don't have any national interest in fighting one another," writes ‪@arashtehran.bsky.social‬ www.haaretz.com/opinion/2025...

Worried about the end of the world? Whatever happens, you can bet that near-indestructible tardigrades will continue plodding along. “Life, once it has emerged on a planet, is very hard to destroy.” My review in The Guardian of "Super Natural," by Alex Riley. www.theguardian.com/books/2025/j...

A very short summary of "Data Visualization against fascism": Fascism conceals truths, disregards evidence-based decision-making, and jeopardizes the education of the next generation. Standing up against means: MONITOR, EXPOSE, and EDUCATE. As scientists we are ready for this! #TCTeAC

@odedrechavi.bsky.social says he wants to change science for the better. How? I’m still not quite sure. But 1.5 days into #TCTeAC, the plan seems to involve, among other things, walk-up songs, jumping, dancing, and a hefty serving of joy.

I'm here at Woodstock Bio in Prague and agree - this was a fab talk! @itaiyanai.bsky.social explains his research to a 16-year-old.
