All I want to do is have a short sleeve button front, massive glasses, and a job for life doing things in windowless rooms I can never tell anyone about lest their heads literally explode. Gigantic mid-century ashtray full of unfiltered cigs optional

Just... if you find yourself using your Christian commitment to nonviolence as a way to justify accepting and reinforcing the state's definition of what is and isn't acceptable behavior and which groups of people are doing which, I'd maybe encourage you to give the Gospels a re-read.

in Germany a lot of this was a reaction to the war years and the failed promises of German imperialism, but you see similar dynamics all over. Fascism's greatest supporters are mediocre people born in comfort who need someone to blame for the fact that they don't have more.

They're honestly one of my favourite media. A lot of the pieces that have most moved me have been short stories, I love short story collections, and I always get my hands on the yearly fiction edition of the New Yorker.

Watching a show about complex and messy and traumatized characters but shaking my head to show I don't approve of complexity or messiness or trauma (I just like the pretty colors)
