Treating people as an equal isn’t necessarily an exercise in uplifting their knowledge. It’s meeting them in a place with ideas that are relatable. An 80 year old doesn’t need to learn a new word like oligarchy - where ‘ruled by a few rich white people’ is just as good.

I don’t like what was done to make you feel that way. We’re entitled to feel anger at being cast as the villains by our own leaders.

Agreed, there is an Animal Farm quality to the US right now. And then there are people acting like they're waiting for the super hero to rush in and save the day. Not realizing (yet?) that they have to be a hero this time.

This isn't a large depot like others Ukraine has hit. If the Russians are so incompetent they can't put them out it says a lot about who replaced everyone that went to war.

Orwell understood what people who desired power did to hold onto it. Others did too, but no one is quite as relatable to today.

Trump's intellect about foreign policy is a stroke of blind luck for China. In comparison to the US, they're a good will ambassador to the world now.

He's being a 'bro' to billionaires who wouldn't hire him to park their cars otherwise.

I’m not sure if you meant it this way, but it’s presumptive to assume people/voters want to know more about anything. Leaders need to do a better job of informing them at levels they can understand. Trump voters swallowed his very simple messaging, Dems need to go into the weeds and do the same.

Agreed. Assuming anyone needs to rise to a higher level of knowledge is the exact sort of thinking that led to this predicament. MAGA was spoon fed pablum and gobbled it up. We need to remember that lesson.

And here you are as well. Along with your 'concerns' over a piecemeal bit of melodrama Musk concocted which he conveniently left out all relevant background information. As well as your utter lack of concern that Musk is and will censor those who oppose him. Good day.

Interesting. So you're using past precedent of censorship you say did happen - while arguing that censorship 'won't happen' again by a site owner working directly for the President? A President who's made it clear he favors takedowns?
comment in response to post
Are you saying that private moderation/censoring and government enforced censorship are equal to one another?
comment in response to post
You're conflating internal moderation with externally motivated takedown requests.

I hope you're right. However, my hunch is the US is quickly moving away from 1st amendment protections on websites like X/Tik Tok. Defining where speech is actually free to take place is a way to short circuit free speech.

The US is trending towards legal action against criticism of Trump and Musk. It is only a matter of time before takedown requests start happening from within the US directed against citizens for 'hate speech, violent rhetoric' etc

Well said. After all the years since the Turks started the Cypriot War, that still means a lot.

Wait until Trump orders silence in the US, Twitter/X will become a graveyard of free speech.

Add to this the refusal to provide service for families of veterans who take their own lives. The Trump admin is a class in brutality.

What do you think of this as a motto for opposing MAGA, Trump and Musk: Restore Inspire Support Engage (RISE) - The RISE movement. Every movement needs a name, and the people participating need to identify with what they're doing. Thoughts?

Great acronym for a personal motto! Clever and true at the same time.

I think RISE works better as well. Leave the names out of it. Does the average American understand the word oligarchy means 'rich people'? I would guess many of the ones who do are probably already on board with Putin, or Ukraine supporters.

Kinzinger - Since 2016 you've spanked Trump hard enough to be charged with elder abuse.

We need something simple that encapsulates people taking small actions that lead to big results. Showing up for a protest, signing petitions, donating to politicians who won't be silenced.
