Here for Arsenal talk. But I teach, I read, I run, amongst other things. I might occasionally say nonsense about other stuff and things.

It would also depend on what his money was then used to do.
I've had a hunch Berta will make a big sale (because Atletico have done that and I reckon it was part of his pitch for the job) and think Martinelli's the only candidate in that bracket.

It also dives outside the box and thankfully misses the ball.
Oh, I've ruined it.

It over promises and undelivers.
You can buy ham, carabina and a tent. What more could you want?
And it's mine.

SterlingNetoLand ®️
I now own this terrible new supermarket.

Yep, the best talent is the aim. But doing it efficiently matters because of the opportunity cost. Nobody wants matters so drawn out you end up in SterlingNeto land.
In fairness, the Kepa stuff feels pretty sharp. But knowing when to move on, even if timing is beyond control, is a DOF skill.

Yes, agree. But if the perception of him is "efficient dealmaker", that perception gets hit by the speed of other clubs (mainly Chelsea and City).

Perhaps an issue is that, in appointing Berta, the hope was that closing deals would be sped up. But alas.
It will probably work out fine, but until we see the results of his (and others') work, you get twitchiness, especially with a tougher start.

Yep. More fool them though; they could have had Stewart Houston.

Tbh, I don't know much about Zubi. Everyone seems to think he's decent. I hope you're both right about what he offers, particularly point 3. We can be very ponderous, so any directness and zip is fine by me.
The same applies to the forwards. Zip required.

I guess. I'd like a rapid dribbly boy with high technical ability who threatens in behind. Easy!

GM is very much a Klopp player, isn't he. Arteta likes 6"2 duel winners in midfield but I'm not clear on what kind of wide guy he wants.
comment in response to

Agree with all the above. He's never going for a walker i.e. Leao. We also do need someone who plays with their head up a bit more than GM.
If your midfield is going to be comparatively stodgy, then Arteta needs to loosen up in the wide areas.

Agree, but do wonder if someone with more output and better technical quality than GM also forces Arteta to alter expectations of the role. E.g. if he had Henry, would Arteta want him to track back?
Hard to know if his principles outweigh the talent if application *as a forward* is phenomenal

But he isn't learning a new language. He is launching his brand, or something.

Not the reason, sure, but having done so, and having decided to go elsewhere, that he wants to actually engage with another culture isn't a bad thing.
It also indicates he's not leaving your club to leave it, more to experience something new. Hardly crazy for a man in his 20s. But whatever.

If Saka or MLS ever went abroad and did the same, I reckon I'd be proud.
Obviously, I hope they stay forever, but nurturing young lads who then represent the best of you elsewhere seems fine to me.

They did.
To be viewed as a success in the US (for people who like golf at any rate), it does appear to need a bad dye job, fake tan and sparkling white veneers.
In fairness, McG doesn't seem to lie or indeed invite violence.

Yes, a good way to put it. Even when he got arrested, he just carried on. There's no side to him. It's a good thing really, but boring.
When the most uncertain thing is whether you'll have a beard this week or not, it's unexciting.
Jeopardy, please.

Also, Paul McGinley's dye job is a thing.

Couldn't agree more. Barcola is the one who looks ready to go bang. If he wants that chance, he'll need to leave PSG, wear the 14 shirt for us.

Nuno Mendes is... quite good.

Seems true, but I'm not sure a Championship winning level midfielder was coming to us in 2020. We were a mess.

Agree, though I'd add that if the punditry called out the errors in search for improvement rather than were intellectually dishonest in the name of engagement, that would make for better icing.

Yep. Could just be that they've missed him off the list though.

You'd think, but Rosiak is in the same boat and not on the list.

Don't get it either. If we want players who add threat, he certainly did that to us. If he's part of the squad, it's good business.
He might be older, but physiologically he's very different to Sterling/William - Sané remains lean and sharp.
The strongest argument against him is his hunger.

Yes. Yet no Europe affords time to implement ideas. He likes a back 3 and so he could take over from Amorim and hit the ground running. He's a good communicator, needed even more at that club than others. Think he's a good fit, but then that applies to Spurs, too.
comment in response to

Sure. It will be interesting to see how it goes. Given Frank appears a very smart guy, I wonder if he doesn't hold out for a well resourced and smart club. Or just a huge one like Utd, where I think he's a particularly good fit.

And also: he was not good at the time he was meant to be good.
