Eh. I've got a lot of that gen-x pessimism that I'm trying to replace with optimism as I can. I like animals, books, plants, and kindness. He/Him.
I suspect this account will largely be an old-man-yells-at-cloud space

Hard agree, but I'm afraid he might be right about this one.

The Nook still seems to be the lightest one on the market. It is weirdly lighter even than the phone shaped ereaders from Boox.
I guess 20-50 grams isn't going to make much difference though.

I couldn't tell you the exact dates or anything, but I think any functioning adult should know hurricanes happen in the summer and into the fall.

I think there is also a case for this guy just being really fucking dumb. Everything I've heard from him is really fucking dumb. So dumb that I can't believe we're still talking about him.

I have a distinct memory of my 8th grade history teacher talking about eating conch on vacation, but he pronounced it like "cunts". It was extremely uncomfortable.

I've been sort of looking for a new ereader. My beloved Nook is starting to go I think. The two that I've been looking at are this Kobo and also the offerings from Boox.

What is even the logic there? None is the answer I guess.
I can see an objection to publuc buildings flying Ukrainian flags. Sure. But why does that lead to forcing that treasonous flag?

My grandfather also made furniture. His were pretty shitty though.

I see I think 4 people of color on that train. Totally unsafe for cowardly white men like Duffy.

There are so many versions now, but on mine it is:
* gear icon in the top right
* Account on the left
* Automatic replies
In most ways I like the web based one better, but the different functionality and how some things don't work in both places is infuriating!

I've never seen DEI function in an Affirmative Action sort of way... That is, DEI doesn't lead to more people from minority groups getting hired (in my experience). It does I think improve retention though by making the place suck a little less.

Shit man, that is like 90% of posts for me lately. I know it is my own damn fault though.

And if you think about it: Trump isn't giving existing states disaster relief funds, why would he not tax the shit out of the (poor and middle class) people of Canada to pay for this vaporware?
Being a state is not a very good deal right now.

It is cowardly legalese pretending that the WAY the crime is committed is the crime not the crime itself.

100% this. My sweet old southern grandma would be kind and polite to everyone in public and shit talk everyone and say the vilest most racist shit in private.

Yeah, I checked and I've lost three trophies... So I might call it a day on Blue Prince for a while. I was almost done anyway; just working on the last big puzzle.

I started watching a standup special from this guy... I'm not a "bro" so never heard of him. It was funny, but then all of a sudden it got just dumb offensive.

Not yet! Every time I play though I get a little more nervous. I've basically not turned off my PS5 since I got to day 90.
My game did crash once over 100, but I don't think I lost anything then.

A property of something turning: if the top is going to the right then the bottom is moving to the left. CW and CCW are way more accurate terms.

Eh. False equivalent. The reason it is bad isn't because something bad happened in the vicinity or in this specific spot historically. It is bad because it is a monument to slavery and a slave culture.

If you leave jalapeños to ripen they turn red also.
I grew a variety a few years ago that turned a deep rich reddish black color.

I was a young reference librarian when a patron walked up to my desk and asked for books about ligers - that is lion/tiger hybrids. I completely dismissed it as fictional and felt like a giant ass.
Never again! I now double check everything I think I know.

A couple of reasons:
The funds are often late. Just my experience, but they have always shown up right at the moment when we started getting nervous.
The federal agencies are leading us on. They keep saying - unofficially of course - any day now, and have been for about two months.
comment in response to

It is pervasive. We aren't talking about it much publicly yet because it is in a "any day now we'll get our funding" sort of mode. I don't have a lot of confidence that it will ever happen though.

I work in libraries - which in opinion is where the fight against LLMs should be fought the hardest... Yet I feel the same as you. A LOT of my peers and coworkers are using LLMs and it feels like the battle is lost.

Not the first but the most recent: "The History of Henry Esmond" by Thackeray. I get that it is from the 1850s, but the misogyny was staggering.

At the sane time though, don't judge people too harshly when you see them spending time/money on frivolities. You don't know what their life is or what they may really need right now.
