Interesting. State terrorism, sadly still dominating the news today. And one of many aggressive actions by colonial powers in that MENA region that tend to be remembered by the colonised much longer than by the perpetrators.

I don’t recall platters that fancy. But do remember British Rail Inter-City trains (late 70s & 80s) letting 2nd class passengers into the 1st class restaurant car for a full English breakfast. White tablecloths, attentive waiters, the works. (Presumably for lunch & dinner too.)

At last, the C of E speaks out on Gaza! Maybe the Church might also now consider Britain’s 100+ years of broken promises to the Palestinians, and how we could make up for that now. UK-French recognition of Palestine at next month’s UN Summit would be a great start.

I joined Lib Dems for this too. Would like more noise about Gaza and West Bank tho. We must speak up on the current atrocities.

I've been reading a whole load of Spanish comments about Starmer's speech. They're along the lines of "make all Brits living in Spain learn to speak Spanish and if they won't, kick them out."

This history gets forgotten. In medieval North Norfolk wool and textile trades flourished as immigrants were welcomed here from across the channel.

Schuman was a compassionate visionary. Do you honestly think he would be celebrating today while the EU (& Britain and the USA) ignore the destruction and ethnic cleansing of Gaza? I think not.
