Well, back from Valetta and trying not to peek at my inbox as I know there’s a tutorial scheduling deadline for Monday. Malta was glorious. KM Malta Airlines is, however, best avoided.

The casual racism in Agatha Christie’s novels still pulls me up short.

Mysterium Fidei (museum in a working monastery) in Valetta is beautiful. Also, vaguely unsettling - but organised religion does that to me.

NEW on the JKP blog: 'Messy Social Work' by @richdevine.bsky.social is a straight-talking guide to life on the front line of social work and child protection. This blog piece is an adapted extract from Chapter 2, ‘Working with Children’. bit.ly/3Zqy1y4 #SocialWork #SocialCare #SocialWorker

Today is brought to you by median nerve compression because I slept funny. Wish me luck today, because this Airbnb charges 4 euros for any broken plates, etc. Gotta love #EDS

I think my cat accidentally read the news this morning.

Researching my mid-frequency ‘cookie bite’ hearing loss. There are often genetic causes. Apparently, COL11A2 can be a culprit. One of the collagen genes. Now, isn’t that interesting given my EDS diagnosis (even though it’s not associated)? I wonder if a gene panel might be sensible/possible.

Just to point out I'm not opposed to the principle. I'm not religious at all. I am opposed to this bill.

Only 30% of pall care is NHS funded. Given today's vote, will Keir Starmer at least commit to dramatically increasing palliative care provision so that patients don't "choose" to end their lives because we, society, fail to give them the care that might make life worth living?

Repeating my stance on Assisted Dying... I am pro-autonomy in death... In principle. I'd actually want it for myself. But I cannot support it in society as it currently is, or with the Government we currently have. Societal change is needed first… 1/2

This is so true. Disability rights have not benefitted from the grassroots social justice movements that those with other protected characteristics have benefitted from recently. That needs to change, and it isn’t just about benefits, it’s also about being visible to and valued by communities.

1/Thought provoking & persuasive piece by @drjengunter.bsky.social that the term HRT should be replaced by HT (hormone therapy) or MHT (menopause hormone therapy), shedding 'replacement' and with it the suggestion menopause is a disease. UK very attached to HRT vajenda.substack.com/p/menopause-...

I read this recently and it blew my mind. It is so validating, discovering there is an actual reason for something untypical in yourself. It's not a moral failing, its not my fault. It's ADHD. #ADHD #AuDHD www.additudemag.com/delayed-slee...

This is a fantastic, important thread. Working as a manager in Disability Services means that I'm (sadly) used to seeing students in dire circumstances, but it is getting harder and harder to support the mental health and wellbeing of the staff in my team. We constantly teeter on the edge of burnout

Day 1918 #ArtKicksCovid19 “The Garden” (1899) Ethel Walker. Bradford Museums and Galleries. In this work, a young woman reaches for the branches of a fruit tree. Around her, a garden of roses and colourful flowers gleams in the golden rays of the sun. On the ground lie her hat and some fallen fruit.

I have six cupboards in a floor to ceiling IKEA combination. Takes up an entire wall. They are full of teaching resources. It’s coming up to four years since I last stepped into a physical classroom. I know.

@girlsown.bsky.social I love your posts, so I promise this isn’t at all snarky, but if you could add alt-text, please. Thank you.
