I really need to figure out the right way to get this poem tattooed on me because it has gotten me out of the hole that is not my grave entirely too many times and I think everyone needs to read it this week billmoyers.com/story/poetry...

When I was growing up, I wasn’t aware of more than one sexuality or more than two genders. I’m not nostalgic for that naïveté, but apparently, many people are. The world ALWAYS changes! No law, EO, or court ruling can bring back life as you understood it at age 8. Why would you want it to?

With @peoplesparity.bsky.social is a great place to be on a heartbreaking night such as this.

“No right is safe in the new legal regime the Court creates.” –Justice Sonia Sotomayor. One of the most chilling sentences I have ever read.

Re #SupremeCourt's Mahmoud Decision: Me to 16YO ( @robbieplaysmtg.bsky.social): Various books may get banned, like @hankgreen.bsky.social's books. 16YO: Or _Great Gatsby._ Me: Technically...that's about straight people. 16YO: I'm sure some people think that.

Generational change is coming: Since Zohran Mamdani won on Tuesday night, more than 1100 young people have reached out to @runforsomething.net to explore a run for local office -- one of our biggest spikes of the year yet.

If you listen to the actual audio, it's very clear that she didn't misspeak. She was told she was wrong, but she refused to listen and continued to double and triple down. The least she can do is apologize and endorse the Democratic nominee even though he's Muslim. Whether she will is unclear.

"Struggling New Yorkers don't want assistance" seems like a great campaign message. Let's see how it works out for him.

its always been intriguing (the way dumb things are intriguing) how racists like trump and tuberville just cant conceive of the notion of black people living in the suburbs, even though millions of us do (and in very rural areas too).

I have a new job I enjoy, and my kids are doing well, and I’m happier now than I’ve ever been, but also, my country is turning into a terrifying fascist hellhole and I wonder if we should get out. #CognitiveDissonance

The Republic of New York has a nice ring to it. (With or without “The People’s” in front?)

What the actual fuck. Sometimes the law prohibits the law from being followed?

pssst...you don't have to worry about the birth rate if you welcome immigrants and their families to this country. Pronatalism is a tool of white supremacy.

Holy Crap. Just straight up looting at this point. Or like was already looting. But just bringing in a semi to haul out the loot faster.

always funny, how many americans will casually talk about moving to other countries and still find space to be anti-immigrant

Deporting children of military veterans because they were born on an overseas military base. This man has no citizenship now.

American College of Physicians sounding the alarm: "What should have been a rigorous, evidence-based discussion on the national vaccine schedule instead appeared to be a predetermined exercise orchestrated to undermine the well-established safety and efficacy of vaccines"

I urge you all to read this. Click the PDF tab. It’s so much about the urgency of now, and it’s the kind of moral voice that we need desperately today. But it’s also a crucial reminder that you, too, have unique skills and gifts to meet this moment. What are they?

Remember when Trump had a full-blown meltdown because as part of the nuclear agreement the Obama administration gave Iran back their money that had been frozen? He never shut up about it. Get a load of this:

Stefanik has 8 or 9 rural hospitals and 1 rural emergency hospital in her district; Tenney has 5. Many will close. How can they face their constituents? Oh, wait. They don't. I held a town hall last night in Tenney's district and someone complained that she never shows up.

Hack your governor module!

RIP Carolyn McCarthy, a reluctant leader in the gun violence prevention movement. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/26/n...

An awesome story about how solar microgrids kept the power on during Puerto Rico's latest blackouts. This is bottom-up, power-to-the-people shit. Get excited!

Robert F Kennedy Jr is not a vaccine skeptic. Reporters and editors who’ve decided it’s somehow more fair to call him one instead of the anti-vaccine activist and lawyer he is should stop mischaracterizing him so… in the pursuit of accuracy.

A few months ago, I would have said that this is ridiculous grandstanding, that no can be stripped of their American citizenship. Now, I know that power will do whatever it thinks it can get away with.

Tomorrow we learn if SCOTUS thinks it's ok for parents to opt their kids out of reading any books that even mention the existence of queer people (Mahmoud v. Taylor). Brace yourselves.

There are now 59,000 people in immigration detention. Almost half have no criminal record www.cbsnews.com/news/ice-rec...

NEW: NSF will be kicked out of their building. Announcement will be made tomorrow by HUD Sec. and Governor of VA. HUD will take over the NSF building over the next two years. NSF staffer: "There is no planning for NSF, no identified future location, appropriation for a new building or a move."

European market for EVs rose by 25% last month. European sales of Teslas went down 28% Who can say why? ( apnews.com/article/tesl...) (Apart from the obvious explanation, Tesla used to be the innovative leader. Now a stale product line—except for Cybertruck!!!)

I've often noted shock (and awe) at the revelation that Carly Simon is a Simon of Simon & Schuster, but maybe everyone who wants to know that knows that by now.

I’d love to see some good sociology about this. Lots of hypotheses out there!

The “We Do Not Care” club, founded by influencer Melani Sanders, celebrates women who have stopped trying to please everyone.

It's a very modern tradition! Not until we got home kitchens did we do this I wrote a whole book on restaurant culture and foodways (Lost Restaurants of Napa Valley) so trust me when I tell you almost everyone ate out all the time until fairly recently.

Careful guys, if you don’t control migration you might turn out like <checks notes> the greatest, wealthiest city in the world.

You know what would encourage people to get more physical activity? No, it is not wearable fitness trackers. It is: 1. A liveable wage so people have time for it 2. Safe parks and other infrastructure for such activity But that’s too hard.
