Whenever I read articles like this, I'm reminded of forthcoming "War on Science" wherein Krauss, Peterson, Wax, & co argue that ideological capture by the *left* is destroying science. At best, poor timing. At worst, authors are actively abetting right-wing authoritarian project to destroy science.

Looks like an interesting read!

If you’re already being attacked. If everyone is losing funding anyways. If the threats to our students are this severe. Then we need to speak out — about our research and about the current threats and the consequences. The public generally trusts scientists. We need to talk with the people.

Powerful statement and an inside look at what is happening to science in tge current administration . time.com/7285045/resi...

Thank you to @alondra.bsky.social for her principled action and clear statement of why. What tragic destruction of our institutions.

It’s very strange that this article on the staffing issues at Newark Airport doesn’t mention the fact that DOGE fired 400 FAA employees a few months ago, and union officials warned about exactly these kinds of shortages.

Great article with lots of perspectives from scientists who are scared to speak out — and other scientists who are scared of what will happen if they don't. Trump & Musk & Kennedy are devastating U.S. research and setting progress back decades www.science.org/content/arti... on @science.org

Worrisome consequence of the attacks on science. Trump’s ‘fear factor’: Scientists go silent as funding cuts escalate | Science | AAAS www.science.org/content/arti...

Useful thread about the restructuring of NSF. Expertise out. Political priorities in. Our science will suffer.

Its educational impact is massive! In addition to the educational programs you mention, I and so many others have had many students learn the principles of scientific research by working on our grants.

Exactly!

This is terrible news! I have served on NSF panels, gone to excellent NSF funded conferences, and been the grateful recipient of NSF grants. Seeinf the destruction of the infrastructure of science support is heartbreaking ! www.science.org/content/arti...

Outrageous!

Congratulations @propublica.org 👏👏👏

Most Americans frequently use federal science information. But few are concerned that cuts to federal science spending could affect their access to such information, a new poll finds.

Look what arrived in the mail today! Congrats to the editors who toiled long and hard with us authors to produce this volume.

Earlier this year, ProPublica found that the sepsis rate in second-trimester pregnancy loss hospitalizations increased by more than 50% under Texas’ abortion ban. Here’s how we did our analysis. (Published Feb.)

Out of nowhere a few hundred years ago....

Agree!

The NSF cuts are devastating in so many ways!

I remember it well; I was a freshman that year. Terrifying!

Howell's opinion in Perkins Coie v. DOJ is a must read. Rules Perkins entitled to SJ on following claims: 1) unconstitutional retaliation, viewpoint discrimination 2) compelled disclosure 3) equal protection 4) rt to counsel 5) due process 6) vagueness

donOLD's administration has made terrible decisions -- elimination of science (and so many other programs) is tragic

A costly mistake.

This is an absolute outrage! Why destroy our nation's highest quality scientific research programs? I've benefited from multiple NSF grants during my career and am both heartbroken and furious at this bullheaded act.

“The attacks are not random. They seem designed to intimidate those of us who serve in this critical capacity. The threats and harassment are attacks on our democracy, on our system of government. They ultimately risk undermining our Constitution and the rule of law.” -Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson

100 days. Think about what our alternative would have been.

Exactly!!

It's important to know that most Americans disagree with the administration's reckless assault on universities and research funding.
