It's been a few weeks since I've been there, but the traffic patterns have varied quite a bit. Will be interesting to see it when everything is done.

I’d bet that actual voters (especially in today’s climate) would choose differently. 2/2

Unfortunately the article doesn’t provide a link to the poll itself and what questions it actually asked. Many support the idea of HSR (I am among them). This project has been a disaster in essentially any dimension. The media campaign against it would be something to behold. 1/2

I believe the outcome is directionally correct (agree). Disagree with the process. Normally I disagree with both with the current crowd. I would love for it to occur via normal channels as described.

It would be great if congress got this. I think they would rescind the funds. Even better, a state referendum to address California’s contribution would probably be valuable as well. The public thought HSR from LA to SF was a good idea. They now know CA is seemingly incapable of delivering it.

It is different. In the pilot’s case, death is on the line. A loss of money, even an astronomical sum, is a recoverable scenario. Death is not.

I concede that the process is flawed. I don’t think that *anyone* can give a reasonable estimate for cost and time. And concluding that we’re past a point of no return allows that it might be astronomical and never. Nothing thus far suggests giving *more* latitude.

Is there any cost that is too high to bear to build this thing? The point of no return analogy for a pilot is different than a sunk cost in my opinion.

It has been a costly boondoggle and this is one of the few decisions of this administration that I agree with as a Californian and a supporter of HSR.

I really enjoyed your podcast with Tyler Cowen. I work in philanthropy and learned a few new perspectives!

I think it's a bit more subtle. One should be able to articulate what they specifically bring to the table that is not outsourced to technology.

Code shares are extremely common in the airline industry. United will sell you a ticket from LAX to LHR (connecting in Montreal), but you'll be flying on Air Canada.

Transportation is subsidized for the poor. Riding the train from end to end for hours at a time is not transportation a a meaningful sense.

It is free to be under a bridge. People are not paying to use the bridge as a vehicle. I can’t say whether that individual paid the fare, but based on experience at entry points I’d say no.
