So many of the top comments on this are gold, lol. This is also unironically my song of the summer. youtu.be/WxLBOwdTKjI?...

This week on the blog: the big iconic opening battle scene from Gladiator (2000)! This sequence has become the image of the Roman army for many, which is unfortunate because - for as fun as it is - it doesn't work much at all like a Roman army. acoup.blog/2025/06/06/c...

Going to re-up this thread since it's relevant to The Discourse(TM) on Bluesky this morning.

It's easy to become jaded seeing how the sausage is made at a major post-secondary year-over-year, but seeing all the excited faces at convocation always makes me happy.

The layout of Emperor Hirohito's obunko shelter-residence, where he took up full time residence from December 1944 until the end of the war. [Accompanied by a brief description that we ended up scrapping from the book]

Plan-scheme is to establish fire superiority to kill-kill, yes-yes. (Skaven is a blast to play in Total War: Warhammer III.)

I actually said "holy shit" when I picked the package up and opened it. This is way bigger than I thought.

Ukrainian security service sources tell @financialtimes.com the agency is conducting "a large-scale special operation to destroy enemy bomber aircraft" deep inside Russia. "SBU drones are targeting aircraft that bomb Ukrainian cities every night." Claims 40 aircraft have been hit.

Breakfast time again at Bro'Kin Yolk!

I'll add a few additional thoughts on the subject from Alan Zimm here that we didn't get to in the video. As I note, Zimm goes into great detail on weapon-target pairings in a hypothetical third wave. There simply wasn't enough ordinance to do everything. It's not a realistic critique.

Did Japan blunder at Pearl Harbor by not sending a 3rd Wave and destroying US Oil reserves? Joining us is historian and Pacific War expert Jonathan Parshall and we discuss why things are different than often seen (esp. on Tora! Tora! Tora!): youtu.be/V-pp2Rk59Yg

I'm looking forward to this video making an appearance! I'm in it, but I don't talk too much. Jon's in the driver's seat this time, haha. youtube.com/post/UgkxOj8...

This is a neat breakdown of that Syril v Cassian fight. youtu.be/q2WW2emgxRI?...

I finished my Rogue One rewatch. Andor does improve it narratively, particularly with Krennic, Cassian, and Saw. As I suspected, the narrative gains are offset by the qualitative whiplash of going from one of the best TV series ever made to something that's more typical "Star Wars quality."

I'd buy a Star Wars: Legion set of ISB Tactical guys in a heartbeat. I want to paint them so bad.

Home air raid shelters manufactured by a construction firm in Tokyo, one of many businesses capitalizing on the air defense market place These cylindrical shelters had wooden interiors and came in both seated and tatami-style configurations, capable of accommodating approximately ten people

Given that Yularen dies on the Death Star, Disney has the chance to canonize the funniest thing. ISB Director Lagret when? He's exactly the kind of mediocre, inside-the-box thinker the Empire needs in these dark times.
