The unrounded unemployment rate has risen every month so far in 2025. “.. At that slow but steady pace you are at ~4.7 percent unemployment at the end of year, consistent with some forecasts on tariff impact." @dailychartbook.bsky.social

JPMORGAN: Trade war repercussions are “only just now taking full effect. .. federal and local spending is on track to slow to a 1%ar pace .. with the flow of new immigrants slowing to a standstill and deportations on the rise. “.. a period of sustained above-potential US growth is over.” 👀

not enough said about how, by turning the national government against states on the basis of ordinary political disagreement, trump is undermining the idea that the union is worthwhile. www.cnn.com/2025/06/06/p...

I wrote about the contrived, retconned allegations against Abrego Garcia in April. There is absolutely no reason to think that the government is charging him based on anything other than the administration trying to save face. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

California, btw, is a donor state - it pays almost 90 billion dollars more in federal taxes than it gets back

This is corrupt. We all know that. So...why can't people -- msm -- say it? www.cnn.com/2025/06/06/p...

This whole thing has been a secret war against knowing stuff and the people who know stuff.

Trump can't have it both ways. Either the economy is not only strong but "hot," and therefore doesn't need the Fed to stimulate it further. Or the economy is weak and struggling, and therefore the Fed needs to intervene and cuts rates. Which is it?

Haaaaaaaaahahahaha

Firmly in the "doesn't matter, ignore" category.

America did not storm the beaches at Normandy alone on June 6, 1944. We had allies who fought with us. Allies from Britain, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Greece, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), and Poland. open.substack.com/pub/charlies...

If anything, it is understated in our public consciousness how “North Korean” we have gotten in such a short period of time, even compared to Trump’s first term. We are only a few short months in and already upwards of a BILLION has been spent on making this one guy feel good about himself:

40 years ago today, Ferris Bueller took the day off.

What Danielle said. Keep your eye on the damn ball, people.

Not doing a full charts thread today, but will drop a couple here as I get a moment.

bluesky needs to extend its character limit so i can add more Ls to the lolllllll required here

"No matter how much reasoned discourse and great factual prose Ed Murrow banged out on his typewriter, broadcasting’s power had, from the beginning, been built on spectacle." published this yesterday before X-men started fighting and proved the point. continuous-wave.beehiiv.com/p/a-letter-t...

Is it just me or is there juuuuuuuuuuuust a tad too much coverage of the stupidest thing…

We are so unserious

Somehow, and I don’t know how yet, we will be informed that the whole Trump-Musk feud is Joe Biden’s fault.

4th and last HS graduation Everything’s fine

I wrote this musingly but the more I think about it, the more I think it's a serious question. A few things need to happen politically & legally for Trump to do this. But it's possible AND it could ultimately benefit Elon...which might also explain why this whole fallout feels weirdly staged. 🧵 1/

This story is wild: Rather than just comply with court orders; the Trump admin has ICE offices and detainees living in a shipping container in Djibouti unde threat of rocket attacks wapo.st/4kPIACX

Because he cant actually fire her

Omg

It’s like veep but much much much stupider

Here it is: Musk thinks he is owed a say in Trump’s policy because of how much he spent on the campaign.

JFC

President Trump just said the Congressional Budget Office "is run by Democrats." CBO Director Phillip Swagel is a Republican, who worked in the George W. Bush White House.

Today, the CBO shared an update: The Republican tax bill, which could add $2.4 trillion to deficits over the next 10 years, would also generate about $551 billion in interest costs to service that debt over that time period.

There. Is. No. Trade deal

I’m on the record favoring mandatory national service - military or otherwise - but Hannity saying this is laughable

What a great essay from @bartona104.bsky.social

US labor productivity slumped in the first quarter of this year more than previously reported, according to revised BLS data. https://www.bls.gov/news.release/prod2.nr0.htm

One obvious economic implication of the latest travel ban is that genuinely international conferences will no longer be held in the U.S.

very fun to read frederick douglass accurately describe the problem with the pardon power in 1867
