Pete Hesgeth — who wants to rename the Navy ship that honors Medgar Evers, a WWII veteran who landed on Omaha Beach — is using that same beach for a photo op in which he promises we will “never forget” the veterans there. What an unbelievable asshole.

If it was really about celebrating military families, we could put $30 million toward helping them offset the cost of their child care, food assistance and tuition…

But it isn't. Trump is throwing himself a $30 million birthday parade just to stroke his own ego.

New version of this paper up -- with (a cleaner version of) this figure now in the main text papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

In 1885, white rioters murdered dozens of Chinese residents of Rock Springs, Wyoming. The story of the atrocity is still being unearthed 140 years later.

Excellent piece from our Board Chair @olatij.bsky.social on the weaponization of Title VI and how attacks on racial equity are unmoored from what the Supreme Court actually held in SFFA.

Happy Pride! 🏳️‍🌈🥳🏳️‍⚧️ To celebrate, @ggwash.org reposted my article on why so many queer people fight for better cities. This may be one of my favorite things I have ever written. 🥰

More polling just dropped -- by a pretty huge margin Americans think that having international students at US universities is good for the country, not bad -- 56% to 14% (+42) and for 18-29 YOs, nearly 1/2 say international students are "very good"

Loudly proclaiming open season for housing discrimination… “Only 2.7 percent of Ameris’s mortgages went to borrowers in Black and Latino communities… …on May 19, the Justice Department moved to unwind the settlement, saying that the bank has ‘demonstrated a commitment to remediation’”

Knowing this was coming was still not preparation for it coming. Call. Write. Advocate. There is a *tiny* window of opportunity to stop this closure. #libraries #museums #IMLS

Tulsa’s new mayor proposed a $100 million private trust as part of a reparations plan to give descendants of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre scholarships and housing help in a city-backed bid to make amends for one of the worst racial attacks in US history.

In my first op-ed for @zerotothree.bsky.social I underscore that Medicaid, SNAP, and other supports for families “are lifelines that give kids a solid start, esp families who face extra hurdles.” The Senate must reject these dangerous cuts. www.the74million.org/zero2eight/w...

I wrote a piece for @sciam.bsky.social about why White parents should be talking to their kids about race and racism. It was so great to work with @megha.bsky.social on this piece! Please share! www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-...

Here is another example of the vestiges of Jim Crow. This lady was born under segregation and cannot get a birth certificate issued to get a real ID. www.instagram.com/reel/DJS4tIQ...

Moved from city (Atlanta) that sold off a *lot* of public housing authority land for way too little. Chicago doing similar sorts of things, hopefully not same scale. IMO, housing authorities generally shouldn’t be selling land. Ground leases maybe. Better yet, develop for deeply affordable housing!

Cobb County, suburban Atlanta county historically infamous for its racism, is in news for rhetoric from schools chief. "these (multifamily) developments...almost guaranteeing, that transience is going to increase and...have a detrimental impact on school performance, whether perceived or real" 1/3

I’m always grateful to be able to think and write about Frances Harper.

If enacted, this would be the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in U.S. history.

Having starved Gaza for months, Israel is now executing a plan to fully take it over, concentrate civilians in camps, and displace them. Countries should act to stop this crime against humanity. Halt weapons shipments. Enforce ICC and ICJ orders. Sanction Israel. www.nbcnews.com/world/gaza/g...

71 years after #BrownvBoard, US #k12 #schools are still divided along racial, ethnic, and economic lines. Our 2022 research shows that more than 1/3 of students (18.5 million) attended a school where 75% or more students are a single race/ethnicity. #EduSky Read more 👉 bit.ly/3RU4Uz6

The long term fundamentals of the economy have not been great for the bottom 50% over last 15 years. The sooner Dems understand this and build a message around economic urgency, the faster we win again. www.cbsnews.com/news/cost-of...

When I wrote that these folks were segregationists, the response from some quarters was that I was exaggerating or missing the bigger picture. But they are literally segregationists and increasingly open about that fact.

2024 CCAoA report: "Center-based care for two children exceeded median annual rent payments" in 45 states + DC and center-based care for an infant exceeded in-state university tuition in 41 states + DC. Parents need affordable, high-quality child care - not medals. www.linkedin.com/posts/childc...
