Working with an interdisciplinary team, we have developed a website to communicate how the White House's proposed cuts to health research would cause losses of $16B and 68,500 jobs. Find out how your community may be impacted. Explore more at SCIMaP: scienceimpacts.org a 🧵

James Boasberg, chief judge of the D.C. District Court, will preside over a case about the Trump administration's use of a Signal group chat to discuss military information.

The Trump administration halted funding for a national database that tracked domestic terrorism, hate crimes, and school shootings, as part of broad cuts to violence prevention programs. The move eliminated a critical resource designed to enhance public safety amid persistent and pressing threats.

Death threats against judges are rising — and instead of dialing it back, the GOP is doubling down. Even after Chief Justice John Roberts called the push for impeachment “not appropriate,” Republicans are pressing ahead. Just this week, House Republicans moved to impeach six federal judges.

Six Voice of America journalists and a director at its parent agency have sued the Trump administration, alleging its moves to shut down the U.S.-funded network are unconstitutional. By @davidfolkenflik.bsky.social

The U.S. Institute of Peace seems to be the first nonprofit that the Department of Government Efficiency has attempted to breach.

"The reason you should care about this is not that it could happen to you but that it is already happening to others. It is happening to people who, we claim, have rights just because we are human. It is happening to me, personally." www.nytimes.com/2025/03/17/o...

This is a coup! U.S. Institute for Peace called the DC police on the Musk team members in an effort to stop them from trespassing because the institute has control of its own building and the land it sits on. But instead, the DC police allowed them to enter and kicked out the institute’s officials.

Yay!!! A federal appeals panel denied the Trump administration’s request for a pause in the rehiring of probationary workers who were fired illegally.

"President Donald Trump has scrapped Biden-era executive orders that raised the minimum wage for federal contractors to $15..." www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

This is a good read.

😡😡😡

OMG the cuteness!! (This is my toothless furbaby Grisette)

The Trump administration has shuttered, fired or targeted for resignation individuals, offices and agencies that could serve as a check on President Trump. Supporters say that is exactly the point.

here's the incredible interview that @chrislhayes.bsky.social did tonight with the woman who was just fired as the pardon attorney at DOJ, liz oyer. really, really, really worth watching: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mnqv...

Something to keep in mind as we read the developing story of Mahmoud Khalil (Posted by a friend of mine with permission to share; removed their name for privacy).

Musk has now poured $8.3 million into buying the tie-breaking Wisconsin Supreme Court seat for Brad Schimel. That is vastly more than any other single donor—to eliminate a state-level check on his and Trump's power. Help us fight back and elect Susan Crawford: PeopleVMusk.com

"A top political columnist for The Washington Post resigned today, accusing Post chief executive and publisher Will Lewis of killing her column that criticized owner Jeff Bezos's drive to overhaul the opinion pages..." www.npr.org/2025/03/10/n... That top columnist is Associate Editor Ruth Marcus.

Such a coward, fraud and cheat. He knows what he’s doing is illegal and wrong and doesn’t want it to get to the courts.

When Hitler started ranting about the Jews from streetcorners in the 1920s, he was part of a long history of European anti-Semitism. But where in the world did this massive anti-trans campaign come from? I feel like it was invented out of whole cloth in the last five years.

This likely confirms that the decision to arrest him was made at the highest levels of government, a terrifying return to the policies of ideological exclusion last seen used during the heights of the Cold War. A very, very worrying precedent at the start of this government.

There were howls of protest and denial from the GOP any time we pointed out that Republicans want to cut Social Security. Now the most powerful official in the White House goes on TV and calls it "the big one to eliminate."

Is Donald Trump intentionally tanking the stock market? Let's break it down: youtu.be/0diA8ral_34

Unacceptable

I honestly don’t hate the picture of all the Chicago cops protecting Tesla because showing a bunch of armed agents of the state openly enforcing Elons will is revealing the truth of our situation much more clearly than anything protestors could show

@chrismurphyct.bsky.social: They're out there saying 'we just passed a bill to eliminate taxes on tips & taxes on SS benefits.' NONE of that's in the bill. But they deny that they're cutting Medicaid. So they want credit for popular stuff that isn't in the bill but ignore the deeply unpopular stuff.

This was always the risk with Gabbard and Patel at the head of our intelligence gathering. We not only will lose our own sources who won’t trust them, but we will lose intelligence from our close allies. This makes a terrorist attack on US soil much more likely.

Drunk on power and ketamine. This is Musk and the foreign minister of Poland. This is what I mean about Musk as the "over-mighty subject". His power is too great for anyone else to be fully free.

“What’s transpired over the last three or four days just takes it to a whole new level of cruelty and inhumanity and, frankly, a whole new level of stupidity in doing this is the most non-strategic way.” Tens of thousands of people will die as a result of this action. www.salon.com/2025/02/28/a...

My fellow Americans, we officially hit a new low today. Thanks to felon Trump’s all out assault on democracy, we are now on a civil rights loss warning list with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Italy, Pakistan & Serbia. Nonviolent civil resistance is a must! www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Mahmoud Khalil was inside his university-owned apartment Saturday night when several Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents entered and took him into custody.

This is the state of all of USAID’s implementing partners. Contact your reps and get these payments moving. Restore USAID. www.linkedin.com/posts/egpaf_...

On March 10, groups that sued the Trump administration — including the AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition, Chemonics, and DAI — should receive payment for work completed before Feb. 13. The judge will then announce a timeline for releasing the remaining funds.

Why? Because Maine’s governor Janet Mills told him to his face she would obey federal and state law, not his bullying edict, and he snapped at her like he did at Zelenskyy and she said see you in court. So, being a thin-skinned hateful savage, he’s now collectively punishing/antagonizing Mainers.

Trump: "We don't need Canada's lumber. So what I'm doing is I'll be signing an executive order freeing up our forests so that we're allowed to take down trees and make a lot of money and then re-harvest trees ... we don't need anything from Canada."

The acting deputy administrator of USAID said the foreign aid review is ongoing, USAID is "corrupt," and the administration is exploring whether foreign aid is unconstitutional.

And the retaliation hits another executive order. This time a specific law firm is targeted.

Please share this with DC lawyers!

Even if you take DOGE's savings claims so far at face value, its moves to cancel contracts, end leases and push federal agencies to reduce head count barely dent the government's balance sheet.
