Except that house prices near top state schools rise so the poorest are excluded if they don’t already live near the school. But I guess in the grand scheme of things, that’s a minor quibble and the Labour policy is good. Just need to make ALL state schools brilliant .

There's a good bit of intertextuality in today's Guardian. The news about CoE clutching pearls over gluten-free bread next to a picture of steampunkers in full costume at a festival. Not sure whether the connection is dressing up or ahistorical fantasy. WWJD?

She preached a sermon (that’s her job) reflecting on the teachings of Jesus. If you read the sermon on the mount (Matthew ch 5-7) and think about the verse in Micah (Ch 6 v8), you will understand what she was saying. None of it was ‘about her’ or in any way egotistical.

I had already bought a copy of this (at my local Waterstones, of course) and grabbed it from my ‘to read’ pile because of the LA fires. It’s a fascinating read by a very good and readable author. Highly recommended.
