I am devastated, shocked, and heartbroken at the assassination of MN leader and my friend, Melissa Hortman, and her husband Mark. Melissa was the kind of public servant you feel lucky to have working on your behalf. And she was kind, brilliant, funny, and warm. Such a profound loss

I am heartbroken beyond words that Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark have died in a violent and politically motivated shooting. Melissa was an exceptional public servant. She was smart and funny and so dedicated to making Minnesota work better for all of us.

This is heartbreaking. (via someone at the St. Paul rally)

Now 18 and 19 years old, the women have plans this summer to climb to the roof of the school district service center to see the solar panels installed, seven years after they first asked for them.

Mystery debris in the sky over downtown St. Paul just now. No sounds or smells - anyone know what this is? @frederickmelo.bsky.social

JUST IN: A Milwaukee judge has been arrested this morning allegedly because she “tried to help an undocumented immigrant avoid arrest after he appeared in her courtroom last week.” There’s not a lot of info on this yet so stay tuned for more as it is released. www.jsonline.com/story/news/b...

After 24 hours on his feet, Cory Booker is defending the scientific research establishment of this country - calling out an experience like the one that drives me and SO MANY of my fellow scientists to do the work we do - that maybe we can do for others what we couldn't for our own loved ones.

Every day it becomes clearer and clearer that one of the Trump administration's objectives is a great resegregation of American life. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Something about what Judge Alsup said from the bench is not being made clear in some of the news coverage. He very explicitly said he cannot enjoin the agencies other than OPM, because OPM is the only named defendant in the lawsuit. So while he is telling OPM to stop the memo/guidance/order...

Try to live your adult life without a federal judge writing this about your ‘work.’ “OPM does not have any authority whatsoever, under any statute in the history of the universe,” to hire or fire any employees but its own.”

BREAKING: A federal judge in California has ordered OPM to rescind memos calling for the mass termination of probationary employees, saying the agency overstepped its legal authority and must inform other agencies it lacked the authority to issue such a directive.

What drives me crazy about the anti-DEI rhetoric is everyone wants to be judged on merit. But you can't be judged on merit if you can't even get in the door because you don't fit some prejudiced definition of who is capable and who isn't

Your regular reminder that the US air & water pollution laws passed in the 60s & 70s -- and the elaborate federal bureaucracy created to administer them -- constitute one of the most successful gov't interventions in history. WILDLY successful. The envy of the world.

I don't get personal on main very often, but I spent a few hours writing this, and I want you to read it. It's about my dad and my stepmom, and me, and Stranger Things, and what's happening to the VA right now. www.cheriepriest.com/blog/the-dep...

Yeah I know people say anxiety is bad, but mine has just been collecting all the possible things that can go wrong so far. Once it has an exhaustive catalog of every possible mishap, it’ll move on to suggesting solutions and then you better watch out.

Termination notices going out this afternoon to more than 300 employees of the National Cancer Institute. Access likely ends today. Four weeks paid leave and that’s it. Strong power move for Team Cancer.

It’s just bleak that there’s a considerable amount of people who are like “thank goodness the worlds richest human being is stopping the tyranny of the consumer financial protection bureau and that guy who collects atmospheric data”
