There is so much I could say about how generations of Minnesotans will have better lives because of Melissa’s tireless and dedicated work. But today I’m just so sad, and feeling this loss so deeply. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her encouragement and mentorship. I can’t believe she is gone.

I’m so sorry for your loss, senator. This is devastating. I am lucky to have known Melissa, and she inspired me in so many ways. She was kind, brilliant, dedicated, and so funny. My heart is broken. Such a profound loss for all of us in Minnesota, and beyond.

It has been so smoky, so maybe. I think your suggestion that someone was burning something is probably correct. It was pretty big chunks of stuff to have travelled all the way from wildfires.

Haha thanks, good advice! I closed my windows. It did float quite high, and floated all the way across the river and kept going out of my view. An unsolved mystery, I guess.

Thanks for reposting this, Patrick. It’s heartbreaking seeing the talented, brilliant, dedicated civil servants undeservedly lose their jobs the past few weeks. Some have been my colleagues, the rest I don’t know but am so grateful for their work that does so much important good in the world.
